- A strong-willed dragon and skilled angler, Tiamat has not and will never let anyone stop her from achieving all she seeks to accomplish.
- She met Herring on a train when he'd recently ran away from home and she had been in the middle of a move to the Ashfall Waste. Herring was nervous about talking to her, but once she brought up wanting to be a professional fisherman off the coast of the Waste, his eyes lit up immediately and he spoke to her a mile a minute. She returned his enthusiasm, and as he told her he had nowhere in mind to go but "away", she asked him if he wanted to come with her and start a business. They've been side by side ever since.
- Tiamat is known to be very intimidating to other shopkeepers, but very pleasant and professional to customers. To Herring, she's his favorite and most trusted person. Khalid is most afraid of Tiamat, given she won't hold back her anger when he dares yell at Herring.
- Tiamat's family wanted her to be a scholar, not a fisherman, and scorned her for it. "Fishing is for water dragons.", they would tell her, but she didn't listen to them. The idea of being holed up in a building pouring over scrolls and books day after day was of no interest to her. So she left on that train, going to what she called "home", never looking back.
