Athena is the matriarch, leader, protector, and mediator of the clan and its affairs. As a Skydancer, she is skilled at empathetic listening and negotiating disputes between clan members. She leads her clan of parentless dragons to the best of her ability, and she loves each and every one of them. She does not currently have any plans to have offspring of her own as she regards the entire clan as her children.

Athena is pansexual.

Personality
Athena is a warm, friendly, and determined (perhaps even stubborn) individual. She loves life and gets overly excited about everything related to the environment, especially bugs. Socially, she is very compassionate and self-aware, but unfortunately this self-awareness sometimes comes after the fact. Her sense of humor is one of the most noticeable things about her; she loves making others laugh with her clever quips and terrible puns. She is calm and confident in who she is.

Physical Appearance
Athena is rather robust for a skydancer. While others of her breed have a more gracile form, she is well-muscled like a tiger, largely due to her life as a warrior (not to mention her generous appetite). Her soft, silky fur is a dark gray, with black stripes on her limbs and neck and a black mask on her face. Her wings and feathery mane are aquamarine in color with darker markings.

RELATIONSHIPS

Father The Windsinger crafted Athena's egg from the elements of the Windswept Plateau. As he could not protect and raise her and Simon in person, he assigned a Gusting Goblin to take his place as their guardian.

Brother and Best Friend Athena's best friend is her brother, Simon the spiral. The two of them are like peas in a pod; two sides to the same coin. In childhood they were practically joined at the hip and did everything together. Although they now have greater responsibilities to others in the clan, they still make time for each other. Guardian / Mother Figure This Gusting Goblin was tasked by the Windsinger to take care of Athena and her brother's eggs. She guarded them night and day, fighting off predators, keeping them warm as they slept, and training them to be strong fighters.

Best Friend One of Athena's closest friends is Pallas the Coatl. They have a deep sense of trust that has been built over their years of fighting side-by-side. Formerly, they were betrothed, but they broke it off when they both realized they weren't in love and decided to be best friends instead.

Familiar Athena's familiar is Bugaboo the Goliath Mountain Beetle. He likes to perch on her head all the time. She strives to be a vegetarian to respect Bugaboo, but he understands when she needs a little protein from all the fighting she does.

Adopted Daughter You'll be in my heart No matter what they say You'll be here in my heart Always Zella is Athena's adopted daughter. Her egg was separated from her family during the chaos of the Aethers return. Upon discovering the abandoned egg, Athena's nuturing instincts kicked in and she took the egg as her own. While she was shocked when the egg hatched into a kind of dragon she had never seen before, she nevertheless did her best to care for the young creature, and was always around to gently take paper from her mouth whenever she got into Charlotte's library. When Zella's original guardian arrived to claim her, Athena was distraught at the thought of losing her daughter but ultimately left the decision to Zella.

As for other dragons in the clan, Athena is on good terms with all of them. She does her best to treat them all equally to avoid picking favorites, though she does have better rapport with dragons who have been a part of her clan for longer. Bentley is one of her favorite people and she's adopted him as her younger brother.

LIFE HISTORY

Birth and Childhood The eggs of Athena and her brother Simon are rumored to have been crafted from the elements of the Windswept Plateau by the Windsinger himself and placed under the care of a Gusting Goblin. The Goblin would curl around the fledglings at night and retreat during the day to keep watch from afar, only to be brought out when the situation warranted intervention (which, due to the pair's tendency to get into trouble, was more often than not). Soon the goblin was joined by a Spirit of Air and then inexplicably by a Goliath Mountain Beetle. While the former immediately bonded with Simon, the latter developed an attachment to Athena. Athena and Simon passed an idyllic childhood in the peaceful safety of the Zephyr Steppes.

Coming of Age
While at first it was just the two of them and their familiars against the world, the young dragons quickly grew to adulthood, and soon they were joined by a dragon named Pallas with whom they became great friends. The trio went adventuring through new lands, fighting off hostile shade-touched creatures and making exciting discoveries each day, meanwhile growing into into formidable warriors. All three of them desired to live in a larger clan, and so Athena and Pallas began making plans for their own clutch of eggs. However, Athena and Pallas soon realized that although they cared about and trusted one other deeply, they were not compatible as mates as they simply did not love one another in a romantic way. For a time the three of them were in despair as they each yearned to be a part of a greater community but did not know how else to grow their clan. During this period there was a lot of passive turmoil within their group, and Pallas even went away for a while to live in the Ashfall Waste... until one day while traveling along the Woodland Path they came across a young Tundra and the pair of wind eggs he was guarding.

Attempts to get information from the Tundra resulted in nothing. He was dishevelled and underfed, and the only thing he could tell them was that his name was Bentley and these were his eggs. The trio decided to take Bentley and the two eggs into their clan, an offer he accepted quickly when Pallas mentioned they would feed him well. With that, their clan doubled in size.

The next few weeks were focused on getting Bentley proper nutrition and incubating the eggs. Bentley refused to leave the eggs: once they relocated the nest to the Zephyr Steppes he never strayed more than twenty feet from the eggs and insisted on sleeping with them every night. Simon spent the second most amount of time with the eggs as he committed himself to being Bentley's older brother, while Athena and Pallas mostly went on hunting excursions to provide for their growing family. The turmoil they had experienced earlier was now replaced by a sense of peace as they all felt they had found their purpose: seeking out the orphaned dragons of Sornieth and raising them within a positive, nourishing community.

Adulthood Athena is now the proud leader of her beloved clanmates who have accumulated over the years. Since that summer, other parentless dragons have joined them, including Evana, Charlotte, Feicui, Sisarqua, and many more.

HOBBIES

Leisure
True to her element, Athena's two favorite things to do are fly and travel. She loves adventure and exploring new lands. As soon as she learned to fly she was off exploring the wilderness of Sornieth: first, the Zephyr Steppes, then the wider Windswept Plateau, then to the neighboring regions of Ice, Water, and Fire, and finally to the farthest corners of the world. Battling monsters across the realms with Simon and Pallas gave her the chance to visit places all around the globe. Her favorite places to visit are the Snowsquall Tundra, the Fishspine Reef, the Highland Scrub, and the Starwood Strand.

Her enjoyment of flying is inherent to the activity itself: she doesn't have to be going anywhere in particular. Even the simple act of taking off is something that never gets old... especially if it involves leaping from a high place and free falling for a bit before catching herself and soaring. It is for this reason that her clan calls the Windswept Plateau home, regardless of where they currently reside. While she loves traveling and living in new places, she can't ignore the fact that the air currents of the Windswept Plateau make it the best place for flying in all the realms.

Athena also has a great passion for ecology. She is mostly self-educated through her observations of the natural world. She is fascinated by evolution, geology, and the unique dynamics of various ecosystems. Aside from all that, she enjoys swimming, sunbathing, and stargazing. Her favorite seasons are autumn and spring.

OTHER NOTES

According to average breed statistics, Athena is slightly below average in length and wingspan, and is above average in weight (in other words, she chonk). Actually it looks like the lengths of Skydancers rangest between 3.14 m and 5.32 m, while the weight ranges from 350.92 kg to 906.64 kg. So she's basically at the weight limit while being almost as short as a Skydancer can get. Not to mention the wingspan: Skydancer wingspans range from 3.26 m to 7.09 m, and she's basically in the middle. Quite average in fact. But yeah, she's about as chonky as a Skydancer can get :)
Was not named after the goddess Athena, I just looked at her upon her creation and the name seemed to fit. Her BFF Pallas was named after Athena's epithet, as the two were originally intended to be mates.
It's possible her name was inspired by the character of the same name from Battlestar Galactica

Until 13 Dec 23 she had the following sentence under the personality section: "She has a history of wallowing in melancholy thoughts, but that's behind her now; in its place is a fiercely optimistic personality that is her way of fighting off the darkness." Because she is my dragonsona and I made her at a time when I was almost violently optimistic in a way that eventually became unhealthy. I swung from one extreme (negativity and self-loathing) to the other (toxic positivity), and have moved away from both those extremes, or rather I have found a healthier balance of both. It is not good to be only sad, and it is not good to be only happy. Being alive is about experiencing ALL of the feelings, good and bad.

12 Jul 23 - at 21:56 servertime (12:56 AM Eastern Time on 13 Jul 23) when Athena, Simon, and Pallas were coli grinding in the Forbidden Portal Venue they came across a Terror Toad. During the battle Athena went berserk. I was not paying attention enough to notice if she struck any of her teammates, but Simon finished the battle alone.
18 Jul 23 - at 20:44 servertime (11:44 PM Eastern Time) when Athena, Simon, and Pallas were coli grinding in the Forbidden Portal Venue they came across a Fear Frog or a Terror Toad. During the battle Athena went berserk and knocked out Pallas and then Simon before being defeated by the boss.
