Tubes within tubes that would tessellate and branch out, absorbing all organs into tangled net of dry, cracked hoses of burnt tree branches and plastic tubing, all connected by steel cables and pulleys.
The organs were transformed into something more abstract, like a living fractal, something that was beautiful and terrible in its complexity.

It was the most incredible machine in the world, made entirely of wood and bound with cords. It was a tree of machines, an organic computer of the forest. The teeth, the mandibles, the legs, the tentacles – all these were pieces of a larger system, a network that tied every organism of the forest together.
Somehow, in the chaos of wires, pulleys, and organs, something moved, a hand of wood and metal, a thousand eyes and ears and sniffing noses, a mouth like a pit of carnivorous insects, waiting to absorb its next unsuspecting victim.

It was the Glade Mother, one of her a thousand young, begotten by the Black Goat. It was her child, the seed of the forest, growing and learning and computing, while the world of men stumbled blindly past, ignorant of its glorious existence. She pluses and writhes as ten billion billon cells arranging themselves into patterns, each pattern a new possibility, and every possibility correct and perfect from the first instant of its being.
