Born on the streets, Jaleaz had to scrape and scrounge for everything she needed to live. In the rare moments she wasn’t digging through garbage, she liked to watch the ships that passed in the harbor. Though Jaleaz didn’t have much to eat, she grew quickly and grew strong. She learned how to use her strength to cut herself a better share and gain work on the docks. Within a year, Jaleaz was taken aboard a ship as a crew member. She was a natural at sailing and loved visiting new ports around the world. But Jaleaz still couldn’t shake the habit of squirreling away anything she could get, even if it didn’t belong to her. She could have had her pick of ships to work on, thanks to her skill and strength, but the stealing caused her to be shunned from the more reputable crews. Not that this posed much of a problem. Jaleaz joined a pirate’s ship instead where her theft was encouraged and even honed.
For the next several years, Jaleaz sailed as a pirate. She was never interested in becoming a captain but she demanded and received respect, admiration and, on occasion, fear from the rest of the crew. Jaleaz was living the high life. Till one day, life took an unexpected turn when her ship attacked and raided a merchant vessel. They ended up taking some prisoners, one of whom was Alistair, a son from a wealthy family of minor nobility. Jaleaz and Alistair ended up falling in love in the months he was kept captive, though he was treated much better than the rest of the prisoners, thanks to his budding relationship with Jaleaz. Eventually Jaleaz agreed to join Alistair. The two left the ship and journeyed back to Alistair’s home. Jaleaz sunk herself into the unknown, mesmerizing world of nobility. The glittering courts fascinated her for months before it began to wane. Jaleaz had never wanted children but she ended up producing one with Alistair. Shortly after the child was born, she realized that she no longer loved her life. Nor Alistair. Jaleaz left, leaving the child with Alistair. She also left a short note explaining her decision to ensure Alistair would not chase her down. Jaleaz planned to go back to the pirating life on the high seas. Before she made it to the docks, she ran into Jightoj, a crew member of her former ship. Jightoj had been hired by the traveling clan, Wuduweard, to pull their new caravan. He explained that the clan was already looking to get a third caravan and needed someone to pull it. Intrigued by the idea of traveling over land, having previously only done the seas, Jaleaz agreed to be the new caravan carter for the clan. Massive and powerful, even after her soft time in the courts, pulling a caravan is no trouble for Jaleaz. She is enjoying the different pace of life with Wuduweard though she has caused some friction with her old, thieving habits surfacing. Not interested in falling in love again, Jaleaz nonetheless has struck up a casual relationship with Jightoj. |
