Manolo had been a sickly, sickly child. Were he born anywhere else on Sornieth he would have been coddled and protected, yet fate had determined Manolo be born as the son of a manipulator, a fiend, a coward, and he often considers himself lucky that his so called father left him to his own merits, wandering the hidden paths and alleys of Lorica when he was old enough to hold his own with nary a positive memory of the man who he onced looked up to. He fended for himself and for no one else, not at least until his half sister met a similar fate. The two of them have gone through thick and thin, with the help of Flintlock, and neither one casts their gaze at their father when he passes them by on the cobblestone streets. Though he is often outwardly hostile to strangers and secretive in nature, his heart has been pried open by one such pearlcatcher who stole his breath away. He had presented her a gift, an effigy of an avian when he had found her sobbing over her own bird's passing, a gift which at first shocked and almost exasperated the girl had it not been for that glimmer of delight in her eyes at seeing such a bird, frozen in flight, with eyes that shone like they were alive and full of vigor. The skydancer makes a quiet living on preserving animals he finds in the wastes, giving them a chance to shine even in death. Between his work, his mate, and his recently born son, Manolo knows he will do better, more than his father ever could.
