Many dragons are born with their heart far from their nest, in the land of another flight. Forn was an extreme case of this. Though born in Dragonhome, he was fixated on the Ashfall Waste, and especially it's volcano. He loved the concept of lava; of this slow-moving, molten substance, that would cover and cool and become new land. He wanted to experience it. He wanted to touch it. Others told him he was mad, that he would die doing such a foolish thing, but he claimed that some dragons must be able to immerse in it without harm, they simply must.

His first visit to Fire's homeland as a young adult was the best day of his life, and he could not be pulled away from it. Even the tame magma vents of the Emberglow Hearth was enough to get him giddy. Without resistence, he made his way to the Great Furnace, an unstoppable force of passion for the thing he loved most. Guards tried to stop him, bystanders called for him, but nothing could keep Forn from climbing that volcano ... and jumping right in.

For 2 long, excruciating seconds, the lava ate through his scales and began to melt his body, until the guards hastily pulled him from the volcano's maw, and rushed him down the mountainside for help. Local doctors, by some miracle, were able to stabilize him. But his time was running short, as the front half of his torso, including parts of some vital organs, had been eaten away, and parts of his limbs burned to the bone. Engineers who had witnessed the event volunteered to produce prosthetics that may help him both survive, and have some quality of life.

When Forn awoke, pieces of him had been reforged in metal, and whatever he was breathing felt like warm bubbles. The doctors and engineers broke it to him gently; they described what happened after he blacked out, and what changes they had made to his body to keep him alive. Though he was in shock for a while, he took it quite well in the end, and spun a positive take on it — he was now breathing a substance similar to the lava he loved.

But in the end, the event traumatized him, and he has never set foot near the Great Furnace again. Despite that, he still visits the Ashfall Waste for checkups and repairs, and to mingle with Fire dragons, who he feels a kinship with. After all that happened, he grew a better appreciation for Dragonhome, and settled down with a clan there. Through this clan he met Coastal, and the two felt an immediate bond of being unlike everyone else. Of being seen as a little bit crazy. She helped him cope with what happened, and how to continue to love something that had hurt him horribly. The two have become inseperable, adopting eachother as brother and sister, and would do anything for the other at the drop of a hat.
