x ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ Chastain is a somewhat special Mirror dragon, although not in a particularly good way. The species that originated in the Abiding Boneyard has a high tolerance against infections of all kinds but due to a genetic condition, Chastain lacks the strong immune system. His parents never put much faith in Chastain; even as a hatchling, he was already much weaker than his siblings. He could barely keep up with them when running around the lair. Instead, he usually curled up in a corner, hissing whenever his littermates mocked him. His weak immune system couldn't protect him from the dangers of the wasteland and soon he developed a strange infection that left purple marks all over his head and rendered any breath attacks useless. His parents, now fully convinced their hatchling wasn't going to make it, cast him out to save on resources. The lone mirror roamed through Sornieth, more often flying than using his feeble legs. He soon left the Scarred Wasteland and passed through Dragonhome. The fresh air helped his condition and so he decided to go to the Viridian Labyrinth where there life brimmed. However, his parents' lack of care proved to be a bigger problem than expected. Soon Chastain found himself not in the verdant green jungles of the Gladekeeper's domain but instead in the mist of the Tangled Wood. Lost and hungry, he stumbled on but the fog only grew thicker. Chastain was sure he would die soon but somehow, he kept going. Suddenly, warm rays of sunlight evaporated the mist into nothingness. Chastain was no longer in the Tangled Wood but the Sunbeam Ruins. Given new power by the light he ascended into the sky and took in the beauty of the ruins. However, his view of the ancient structures bathed in sunlight was obstructed by a monstrosity called Luminax. Before the Emperor spotted him, another shadow fell over Chastain. "Watch out!" The deep, rumbling voice came from a Guardian that looked like she had been hewn out of stone and now positioned herself at Chastain's side. She advised Chastain to leave Emperor's Wake before Luminax could spot him. She would distract the Emperor. However, Chastain refused. For the first time in forever, he felt like he was in a place he belonged. Where he could help. Judging by her stern look, Kida the Guardian, would not allow it. She thought he was weak, just like everyone did. "Fine," she said. "You may stay and help me to protect any dragon that wishes to pass through this land." In the following weeks, he and Kida grew close. She was the first dragon to see potential in him, not to mock him for his disability. Together, the two of them recruited more dragons for their quest and raised multiple nests, sometimes adopting hatchlings. |
