______ Seal grew up in an Ice Clan that scavenged for a living. He would never feel like he was doing the right thing, but his family put pressure on him to just go along with it. Stealing from the other Clans was hard, and sometimes dragons got injured. It would fall upon Seal to take care of them, and he hated it. Helping dragons like his Clan was hard, since all they did was steal and lie. Seal never really felt safe, so when he was old enough he tried to convince his two siblings to come with him and run away. Unfortunately, they didn’t see things the same way he did, and told their parents. Seal was forced to stay with the Clan, and he started growing more distant from reality. Much later, their Clan was attacked by another Clan they had previously stolen from. Seal’s family fought, but they soon all died. Except Seal.

______ The male Coatl stepped out from his den, his pale blue gaze scanning over the blood-splattered dragon corpses littering the ground. Dragons stood with their talons stained with dark red and their pale blue Ice Flight eyes narrowing when they caught sight of him. They seemed ready to pounce, about to strike out at him as he walked forwards. Instead, Seal stopped and a large female Skydancer stepped forwards, her wings brushing past the battle-ready dragons of her Clan, and stopping just in front of the gray and blueish dragon. “So you’re the one who hired us,” she said in a slightly casual tone, though Seal could tell she was actually itching for a reason why he had. “Yes,” he said, his voice flat, conveying no emotions. “And your side of the promise?” She asked, with a hint of a snarl to her voice. The male flicked his tail, talking about the treasure and diamonds his Clan had stolen. “Take it all, I don’t want any of it,” he replied, walking past the rest of the Skydancer’s Clan with purpose, spreading his wings and taking off into the night sky. He flew away. Away from his horrible Clan and parents and away from the dragons he hired to kill them.

______ When Seal learned that Sanctuary was moving to the Ice Flight, he was about ready to jump out the window of his house with Anemone and his kids and never return. He couldn’t go back. Seal had previously tried to return to his former Flight, but was met with accusations. Known as the dragon who murdered his whole clan of at least 50 dragons, he knew that returning would bring ill will upon Sanctuary and himself. He had only told Anemone part of the story, but returning and just being attacked by all the other Clans was not going to help Sanctuary escape from the deaths and disappearances. Seal feared there would only be more. He paced around his house in the forest, biting his lip with worried eyes, until he finally couldn’t stand it anymore at sat down, his head in his hands as his tail curled around his feet. The door opened and Anemone returned. She was home early from her shift working in the Healer’s caves, and when she spotted Seal sitting in clear misery on the ground, she dropped her supplies and rushed over to him. “Honey are you okay?” Anemone asked, crouching down and lifting up Seal’s head to look him in the eyes. Her concern for him was written all over her face, and Seal stared at the dragon he loved. They locked eyes for what felt like forever, until Seal’s brain registered the words Anemone had spoken and he started crying. Seal could feel Anemone’s talons shaking, but she quickly grabbed him and pulled him into a hug. “Seal,” she said slowly, taking deep shuddering breaths as the Coatl listened to the Nocturne’s heartbeat. “Seal listen. Whatever happens, I’ll get you through it. I’ve done it before, I can do it again.” The orca colored Coatl took a deep breath as he tried to regain his usual cool and calm composure, and he slowly leaned back from Anemone, placing his talons on her shoulders. “I love you,” he said, breaking his calmness to smile at his mate with faint tears in his eyes.
