Vanatora

Vanatora is a hunter and warrior for the clan, proficient with her crossbow, her heavy blade, and her natural weapons. She is the resident expert on insects, arachnids, and some many-legged things more difficult to classify, studying both the tiny and the huge forms of these creatures. Many of the latter seem strangely unfond of dragons (this could not have anything to do with the fact some dragons find them delicious, surely?), and would gladly have this smallish Wildclaw for dinner.

Any giant spider to mistake this chitin-armored hunter for an insect has caught its last meal.

The unpalatable and disorienting secretions of a tame millifae coat Vanatora's armor, preserved in an oil composed by Carregwaed (and extensively field-tested by Vanatora herself) to help repel liquids, clinging webbing, and various kinds of goo. Her crossbow bolts - essential when hunting creatures that climb walls or fly - are dipped in a mixture of this same oil and the concentrated venom of an ashspine widow; she only rarely adds this mixture to her blade, considering it wasteful. The battered, cleaver-like weapon is effective enough without poison, though this did not save its prior wielder, whose desiccated remains Vanatora found in a giant spider's cocoon.

The cocoon had sat undisturbed for years, and the only spiders to be found nearby were of the ordinary kind, far too small to threaten a dragon of that size. This is a mystery she has yet to solve.....

Vanatora's trained triple-sight firebug familiar is both lure and light source as well as companion; she has learned to borrow its sight to help her scout ahead. Even its weak vision is helpful in determining a path through caverns, or in guessing generally where beyond her own sight the firebug was turned back by something unpleasant, hungry, or both.

Vanatora takes the state of her chosen clan's food stores personally. This and her small size have led some of her clanmates to suspect that she learned early in life what it is like to go hungry. The reputation of Wildclaws for dueling over slights - sometimes to the death - seems to have so far put a damper on any inclinations find out for certain. Or if not, then any who know her past have chosen (or been warned) to keep silent about it.
