When she was born, Nyx believed she was blind, seeing nothing but darkness and fearing the unknown world around her. She quivered as she felt her way around, trying to find something, anything to make the terror in her heart fall away. The more she moved along, the more at ease she felt. As Nyx journeyed in her den, she realized that she had sight the entire time, and that the lack of light made it difficult to see. Then, because of the darkness around her, she was able to see the slightest crack of light. Emerging from the shadows, Nyx outstretched her wings, her eyes facing the moon as stars twinkled beyond it. Alas, the first true view she received, finding the beauty in the night.

Others trembled with fear as night fell, but Nyx embraced it as she got older, finding so much to love within it -- the stars she could gaze upon, the sound of the waves crashing nearby as the moon pulled them to the shore, the creatures snuggling close to rest for the day. She found simplicity and solace in the night, and realized that others did too, so long a spark of light was near. Why did everyone around her fear the darkness and depend so highly on the crutch of a flicker of a flame or a beam of sunlight?

Nyx was determined to instill bravery in the hearts of her fellow dragons, to make sure they had nothing to worry about when darkness crept in. If the clouds covered the moon, she would bat her wings with all her might to clear the skies. If it grew late and others became lost on their travel home, she would direct moonlight to guide their paths. When things would go bump in the night, her dragons could depend on her to help protect them when they were most vulnerable. With her willingness to help her community, the dragons did not hesitate to give her a crown to honor her.

Small, but mighty, Nyx took up the throne as Queen of the Night, and has vowed to bring comfort and peace to her dragons. The night no longer ruled the fear in the dragons' hearts when Nyx ruled the night.
