Uh-oh, looks like this starstruck daydreamer wandered a little too far from his home lair cwrdlyrvn (514904), and now he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but he would be very grateful!

Aquila has always had a taste for adventure. He was curious about the world and its machinations, and as soon as he was of age, he set out to see the world beyond his home. He has wandered to a lot of places, driven by curiosity and wonder at the natural world. Aquila once visited Shifting Expanse and stayed in a lightning flight clan. His temporary home was in an arc building which they called the Lightning Flight Embassy. There were many other travellers staying in the Lightning Flight Embassy, but Aquila was treated differently. Alligator Clan did not think very highly of male mirrors. They compared them to wolves which they believed that the females are known to do all the hunting as the males stay home. They basically saw them as a symbol of laziness. Aquila just did not feel at home, so he had to leave Alligator Clan. After a long, exhausting flight back home, Aquila arrived with a sour experience. However much he had tried to prove himself, the other flight just couldn't accept him. He had sulked in his home for days, with Aiyl the matriarch growing more and more worried every day. Kiri, having had enough of the other Mirror's skulking, dragged him out to one of her digs. "Come on, sourface!" She yelled at him, as he trudged along the path, crestfallen. "It's not that bad. You had a bad few days, what are you gonna do about it?" She doggedly pulled him along to the nearby riverbed, looking for pottery shards. "You have no idea, how awful it was!" Aquila moaned. I wanted to see more! I wanted to know the flight's culture and their lives! But noo! Just because I'm a mirror, I must be lazy and overfed!" Aquila looked up to the sky, bemoaning his bad mood. "That's awful!" Kiri said, belly-deep in mud. "Go on, tell me more!" Aquila's bitter experience spilt out of him, at the insistence of Kiri. She encouraged him to share his story and go travelling more.

"A traveller, are you?" Aureo said with a smile. "Why, make yourself right at home!"

"They wont mind I'm a mirror?" Aquila eyed the skydancer warily. "Not everyone is very happy to see us come."

"You've never been to our clan, have you?" Aureo asked his new friend, excitedly flying around him in circles. "Everyone is welcome with us. Those outcast, those running- and yes, mirrors. Most definitely." He paused. "Didn't you say you wanted to learn more cultures outside of the one you know?"

"Of course!"

"You can't learn more if you fear rejection you know." Aureo told Aquila. "You'll see- everyone will be more than happy to get to know you!"

"If you say so," Aquila beat his wings, following Aureo towards the floating clan. He was starting to feel a little more optimistic thanks to the skydancer's peptalk. Kiri had been right. He shouldn't have lost courage so easily.

"Oh, by the way- did I tell you? One of our leaders is a mirror himself!"

Right indeed.

As Aquila spent time in the clan, he quickly learned that Aureo had been right. He was warmly welcomed, once introduced by his new friend- and introduced to the clan's archivist after he made his goals clear. He felt wonderful, soaking in the bustling culture and history of the Purring Winds, introducing himself to a myriad of colorful personalities, learning about them, and they in return, about him. All in all, it was a nice experience after the total failure his previous endeavor in another clan had been.

Once he was satisfied with what he had learned, having made new friends and seen new things, Aquila decided it was time to move on. The Purring Winds had been wonderful, but his adventurous spirit craved more.

As a memento for his stay, he was given a scarf by Aureo- one that, in the skydancer's words, "matched his pretty wings." While Aquila usually wasn't one for apparel, he decided that he would treasure this scarf, as it was a symbol for the success in his journey. Aquila managed to make his way to the center of the Windsingers domain. Here, there was a bustling city right near the Aergate. It was pretty easy for him to get here. It was as if the wind itself was pushing him towards this place.

Walking around the cobblestone roads, he saw a snapper carrying a load of wooden crates.

"Do you need any help? Those crates look awfully heavy." Aquila asked knowing that his strength could not compare to a snapper such as the one standing before him.

"Oh, hey there! No, I'm quite alright. Almost at my destination actually," she said cheerily, "no need to worry, I do this all the time. My name is Nohea. I'm a courier."

Aquila greeted her back and watched as she walked away. Curious, he decided to follow behind her (with her permission of course). This is the first time he has ever seen a snapper courier. Usually that job is reserved for "faster" dragons. He asked her this.

"Well, that's usually true, but I work for a large merchant caravan you see. They have large and heavy packages they send and receive in bulk. Not many dragons are able to carry that kind of weight. That's where I come in! I might travel slowly but I always deliver my packages safely."

Their conversation was brief as Nohea needed to pick up some crates to deliver back to the caravan. Before she left, she invited Aquila to come visit the caravan if he ever gets a chance. "You'll be surprised at how many of us have jobs outside of the norm," she smiled, "plus you wouldn't have to travel alone for a while." With that she left.

It might be nice traveling with other dragons he thought. I'll keep an eye out for anyone who might be willing to join me.
