Ruby is a healer, one of the few within the clan. He is calm and gentle, although is disciplined enough to act rationally in an emergency. He has a knack with words and can talk himself into or out of must situations. Much of his success comes from his father's influence, and though he is skilled by his own right, he would never have gotten a spot in the Council without Butterwing's help. The fact that he is a gorgeous red also plays into it, while his brother is a dull gray. The Coatl color prejudice always comes into play.

He, his son Turak, his brother Brady, and their partner Amaara all work as a medical team to treat illnesses and wounds together, called the Fellowship of Healers. They are bound by a strict self-made code of the Healer's Oath, and should one of them break this Oath, they will be stripped of their magical abilities and shunned from the City of Cinder. Ruby was the one to originally coin this Oath, and it was written into City law by the Council after every healer agreed to it.

The Oath has five distinct parts, being as follows:

Any and All dragons Must be Cared for by Us Healers, Regardless of Affiliation or Status

Any and All new Findings must be Shared with the Fellowship of Healers

Any and All Suspicious Actions by a Patient Dragon must be Reported to the Council Immediately

Any and All Relationships between Healers are Prohibited and are Punishable by Council Law

No Harm shall be Done to another dragon By a Healer
