Butterwing is sensitive to other's emotions, and often knows something is amiss without anything ever having been said. He is a wonderful confidant, and is amazingly comforting. He puts a great amount of effort into his spiritual work and thus is adept at receiving the will of the Flamecaller and messages of the spirits..

He works as a missionary of the Flamecaller, shrinekeeper, and he performs every exalting ceremony. Hypnotic when he channels the dragon god, he can be frightening when he shrieks the fiery words in a trance. His presence with the general dragon population is well known, and many seek him out to vent or to communicate with spirits. His empathy is unmatched by any other dragon within the Council and he is well loved for it. He brings the concerns of the people to the leaders when necessary.

Butterwing keeps several apprentices to help him tend to the shrines and teach them how to perform ceremonies. He teaches them how to train exaltees as well. Any dragon he deems worthy will be allowed to learn under him, and become inducted as an official Acolyte of Flame.

He and his mate Phoenix strive to improve the conditions of the working dragons, and often help them in secret under the guise of their religious workings. The Council largely stays out of their business, making it easy for them to run underground systems.
