Mangrove was discovered by a patrol of Canyongoers as a hatching, and was brought and raised there. She was raised in the Canyon and believed she belonged in there, but later felt that her passions to help others with physical injuries made it hard for her to thrive in the very brazen and "out-in-the-field" environment that the Canyon had provided. She instead found that later on she did much better studying in the quiet of the Caverns after
