You may think that, with many distinct and distinguished lineages in his heritage, Lucian wouldn't have trouble finding some part of his family that he clicked with. Lucian himself will be the first to tell you that you are wrong, very wrong. It only makes things all the more complicated. So sure, he comes from a few families of respected fights. Night Warriors, Witchborne, Nightcallers - certainly Lucian would fit the standard? But when the moon that shines upon your newly-hatched face deems you 'pacifist', and the card placed before your still damp talons calls you 'directionless', and the very earth upon which your egg rested whispers 'run, fly, leave', maybe you simply won't be what you were cut out to be - not in the desired way, at least. Lucian's mother and father did their best to help their son as he grew. The reversed Ace of Cups has no one interpretation, meaning that all they could do was watch him as they taught. Unfortunately, Lucian could never find himself truly invested in any of his studies. He did - and still does - feel guilty about it. How could he just not? How could any part of what he was born to do, born to be, feel wrong? Still, Lucian kept his frustrations to himself for the most part. He continued with his Witchborne training, eventually becoming a fully-fledged Witchborne - though much after his elder brother Xiang. But it wasn't quite enough. Throughout his baptism, Lucian still found himself doubting if upholding and teaching the Way was what he wanted with his life, as awful as it sounded. He was certain the elder Witchborne knew - he will never forget the way their eyes seemed to burn holes through him - but there was no reason for Lucian to be denied the place in the family he set out to claim. Perhaps it was the stares that pushed his next decision. Shortly after being recognized as a Witchborne of Greteel's line, Lucian admitted to his mother and father that he had no intent of claiming his other lineages. He told them he feared he could not balance them all, and while this is not entirely untrue, Lucian neglected to share the fact that he was unsure if he even wanted to be a true Witchborne. Thankfully, Requiem and Sventura were understanding, and still proud of their son for what he had accomplished. Lucian can't help but feel he disappointed his mother, though, for disowning the part of him that they shared. To briefly put some things in perspective, the title of Witchborne or Nightcaller alone is extremely heavy to bear. To couple those accompanied by the blood of one of the most well-known clan of warriors in Sornieth is crushing. There is an expectation to be something hidden in each family name, something Lucian fears he lacks. Something he, frankly, has no interest in. It's terrible, he knows, to look back at the faces of the Witchborne who burned, at the warriors who fought til their death before him and walk away from them all. It's a terrible thing to ignore the calling of so many, of his family. He knows it, and hates himself for it. So, he at least tries to act as he's supposed to as a Witchborne of the Seed Moon, as a kind of penance. ACE OF WANDS-REVERSED [/center] |
