"Suddenly, all at once, each eye flashed bright gold in rapid succession. Delphi could feel herself being torn away from the peaceful darkness of the cave into something full of bright, blazing light, a thousand and one futures passing in front of her. It was overwhelming, exhilirating and terrifying, and she wanted nothing more than for it to stop.”

Delphi was born to strangers and adopted by her parents, the shadow-born shaman Grim and the performer Eissu. Her mysterious magical heritage led to her being born with many eyes of blazing light and the gift of prophecy and visions, as well as a jagged birthmark across her body. Her gift affords her a high station and many come from across Sornieth to consult with her, but to Delphi the gift is nothing but a curse. It brings her plagues of visions she doesn’t want and leaves her without a second's rest or privacy for herself, and she openly rejects outside of her required hours in the temples, living in a secluded cave on the outskirts of the clan borders.

She becomes more bitter and angry with each passing vision, seeing it as a punishment from some wrathful god who wishes for her to suffer. Andreo is the only one she’s found that can understand her - he, too, was born with sights and visions he didn’t want, and it forced him to leave society behind. She’s taken to listening to his teachings and using his words to help her moderate her own abilities so she can try to live a normal life, and he is sure that she will be able to reintegrate if she's able to confront the demons in her own mind and come to terms with her abilities deep within herself.
