⚔ STORY

Magic is the force that drives the world. Sornieth is a land infused with magic in every being; every dragon, beastclan, wild animal, plant and stone is suffused with it. No matter where you go, there’s no getting away from it. Not even the technicians and inventors of the Shifting Expanse can claim to be free of it – their hulking machines and automatons are either built with it or powered by it. It’s everywhere.

Everyday. Normal.

But some of it is dangerous beyond belief.

Some individuals are exposed to unsafe amounts of magic and become warped, monstrous creatures. Some might be cursed to bring disaster upon those around them. Others may choose to use magic for their own ends; manipulative and mind-breaking and hungry for power. Sometimes witches steal souls or life energy or… whatever… of entire villages in search for endless power.

Nim knows this better than most. Her family was destroyed by a witch-king claiming lands as his own, everything was scoured clean and those who lived there were consumed by his vortex, their lives and energies being used to fuel him and his greed.

Folks like this need to be stopped.

Not all witches are evil, not all beasts are malevolent. She knows this. Hadal and Arisen and Talamh are not malicious by any means. (Talamh is on thin ice, though. The second her thirst for knowledge gets her possessed, it will be Nim’s blade at her throat. And Tuamach’s knife in her back, sister or not.) But just because there are some good creatures of magic that doesn’t mean she will turn a blind eye to those who hide their monstrous nature.

No enchantment is going to stop her from finding the witch-beasts and demons and eradicating them. Sornieth will be the safer for it. And she’s heard there’s a refuge somewhere in Dragonhome for just such creatures. Tuamach’s pale gaze will find it. And Nim will bring retribution down on the abominations who call it sanctuary.

The Witchbane Coterie will find justice for those victims of magic who were silenced before their time.

⚔ OTHER
~~━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━~~

ORIGIN / Arcane clans are well known (stereotyped, even) for having mages and academics dedicated to the various fields of magic. Nim's clan was one such. They had no warriors, no defences, they were librarians and researchers. So when the warlock warlord, Borzen, descended with his summoned army... they didn't stand a chance.

Fact / Never dreamed she'd become a warrior, Nim was, like many of her clan, more interested in learning than warfare. Her primary area of study was the ley lines and focus sites that dot Sornieth. There are many locations that seem to harness magical energy in some way and she loves learning about them, deconstructing them, figuring out why they work how they do. And sometimes, those places are birthing grounds for monsters and magical abominations. She's certain the Reliquary is one such.

Likes / Books, quiet moments, sunlight in winter, the beach, flying, travel, meeting new faces, helping others. Nim derives joy from so many things it's garnered her this reputation of being a little simple, impossible to irritate. That's wrong, of course, but she doesn't mind playing into it.

Dislikes / Tyrants, warlords, the selfish and greedy, thieves, poachers, criminals who try to escape justice, that kind of thing. Also mushrooms. They just have this horrible texture to them. Also anything that's hard on the outside and gooey inside, candies and insects in that vein will make her gag.

Interests / Geography. Perhaps it's an obvious off-shoot of her study of ley lines, but in general the way the earth is shaped is so interesting. And natural formations are some of the most breath-taking things in the world. She has a little list of places she wants to see and every intention of crossing them all off.
