Sloop, trawler, shipwreck
by yours truly, crappy non-native English included
xxxxxxx– Oy, Phiphi! Did you see a dark blue boat pass by the shore? – Her neighbour asked. xxxxxxxHe jumped from dock to deck where her hammock was, pushing her and sitting by her side. She gave him her pipe and saw him take a deep breath. As he let out the smoke in a billowed fog, she pushed her knees back to her chest, sitting up and giving him more space. It was cold and humid now, unlike in the morning when the heat picked up. The sky was dark and yellow, the calm before the storm. xxxxxxx– Dark grey sails and azure yucca ropes? – She asked with humour, watching him take a deep breath from her pipe. – Please tell me you came here to bring me dinner from town. xxxxxxx– Yeah, that very one. Wanna guess what came of it? – Fitzwilliam leaned back against the hammock, swaying it with his feet. xxxxxxx– No, I don't feel like guessing. – She took the pipe back from him and added more rose essence to it. No dinner, it seemed. – Just tell me. xxxxxxx– It's wrecking. xxxxxxx– Oh, horse sheep. – She sat up. – Where did it wreck?! xxxxxxx– I didn't say it wrecked. I said it's sinking. Right now. xxxxxxxHe was a bit of a coward, Phiphi liked him because he was good company and most of the time she was bored, but she wasn't a coward. She jumped up and hoisted up her sail. The cream fabric pulled against the heavy winds. xxxxxxx– What are you doing?! xxxxxxx– Hoping I get there in time to save someone. – She said, pulling back her anchor from the depths. He approached her, drawing the ropes and tying while she took to helm. – Are you coming? xxxxxxx– No?! You do realise another maelstrom is churning, right?! xxxxxxx– I'm not going to the high sea. The trawler was sailing close to shore and, boy, I know these shores like the palm of my hand. xxxxxxx– You're crazy! xxxxxxx– No, Willie, I'm not crazy! It's just that unlike you I am not a coward!

xxxxxxxThunder and wind picked up at open sea, raging for the realm above the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Long since its patron protected it, the sea was often falling victim of the clash from the other elements. At first, they were simply called thunderstorms. But as the last prophecy came through these monstrous storms were renamed. xxxxxxxThunderbolt that struck all who dared to sail and wind that broke every daring wing; as waves big enough to be taken for mountains formed, dragonkin renamed these storms. xxxxxxxTidelord had forsaken its land; maelstroms kept churning. xxxxxxxHer tiny boat swayed over the wrathful rolling of the waves, small but sturdy. The two of them ripped waves apart as they approached the trawler. She looked to the deserted deck. Was she too late? Had they abandoned their ship? xxxxxxxShe moved her rudder to turn to the other side of the boat when thunder struck the trawler, ripping the main mast in two. The heavy oak broke the deck. Debris and wood scattered on the waves. She thought it was a lost cause when an elder dragon finally appeared on deck. xxxxxxx– Oy! Over here! – She pulled her hat and tried to wave at him, but he kept frantically running around the destroyed deck. – Dang... xxxxxxxShe reached out to a flare and lit it up using her magic. Sparks of lightning shone in bright blue light. The bogsneak turned to the sight of another boat and jumped off the ship. xxxxxxxShe pulled her helm and tried to steer her cuddy cabin boat. It moved gracefully against the chaos surrounding it. She dashed to her sail and collected it while the Coatlass calmed briefly. She tossed a long rope and buoy to the waters as the bogsneak struggled against the waves. He held on tightly to it as she started to pull. xxxxxxx– Who else in on your boat?! – She asked the old dragon once at the safety of her deck. xxxxxxx– N-n... – He was crying heavily. xxxxxxx– Focus, lad! – She slapped him in the face. xxxxxxx– Nobody! Thunder... It hit them two... Then she jumped ship and I couldn't... xxxxxxxShe closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She had been too late. If only Fitzwilliam wasn't a coward. If only she had signed to its captain that a storm was brewing. If only they didn't decide to sail that day. If. If. If. xxxxxxx– Mind my sails, lad! We're sailing to shore! Hold on tight! xxxxxxxThe bogsneak seemed a bit more focused now, if shaky and nervous. Who would blame the poor dragon? His crew was dead, like many others would be by the time the storm was over. He used the remainder of his strength to take to the ropes that control the windsail. Phiphi took to her helm, spinning it steadily as the Coatlass turned from the trawler's shipwreck towards the safety of the shore. xxxxxxxIn a final moment, she gazed at the wrath of the sea and the maelstrom churning behind her. Another crew dead, another boat sinking to the depths of the ocean. xxxxxxxShe closed her eyes, offering what little she could: prayers in honour of those souls lost at sea. | x |

Seraphine was always a very simple dragonet. She was the type who paid no mind to what she had to work with. Phiphi would keep a job so long as it provided her with the needed money for her hobbies, free time and home. She owned a small single-person boat that was only good for sailing close to shore and lived on rolling waves on the coast of the Shifting Expanse. As far as Seraphine knew, there had never been anyone for her. Not that she wasn't beautiful and had possible suitors, she just felt like she wasn't interested in romance. She didn't remember her parents, although stories had that they were both scientists. She had no inclinations for so. The seas called her; she loved the breeze of the ocean. Perhaps, she thought, the sea just hadn't found time to grant her call. But she knew, one day, everything would line up to find her place on it. And of course, in due time, the sea asked for her help. The rage of the elements never scared her. Storms could rage, yet she would not recoil. A massive shipwreck happened just close to where her little boat was docked. With it, she ferried one single surviving dragon back to shore. As she housed the poor dragon for a few days, she realised something was very wrong with him. That meeting changed her life; she now cares for this hatchling that looks so much like an old dragon. _______________________________________ |
Hearing rumours here and there about dragons who got involved in age-changing spells, she was drawn to Porto with Alm on her toll. She passes him as her father, even though he's only barely out of his hatchling years. In private, they act like mother and son. She hopes to see the day he'll revert back to his child self. She has already found Lulu Mae, as a dragonet who won't age and highly suspects two members of the Faipur Caravan to be the dragons the rumours spoke about. She has one ally on her quest in Sandau, as the resident – accessible – mage. In exchange for his help, she's working as a seamstress, repairing windsails for the less-respectable dragons that dock on the Stormsbane Wharf. Her son, Almeida, is also working as a coin master for Vanessa's Crew. Seraphine strictly forbade him from engaging in any more "adventuring and pillaging" until he's at least 21. Most dragons think she's a tad too bossy and poorly manages her finances. No one in their right mind would trust Sandau with their hard-earned wages, right? But Seraphine was always a simple dragon, with strong fibre and a focused mind. Alm is her son so she'll do whatever it takes to win back his childhood and with that, the companion she needed for taking on the Seas and perhaps joining the Stormsbane Crew for good. |

You wouldn't expect this pretty lady to be in such huge debts to the Navigator Guild. Hey, she just has a tase for fine cuisine, and all her expenses are accounted for. What, a girl can enjoy the finer things every now and then, right?

How was I to know at last that happiness can come so fast? Trusting me the way you do I'm so afraid of failing you Just a child who cannot know that danger follows where I go There are shadows everywhere And memories I cannot share Nevermore alone Nevermore apart You have warmed my heart like the sun. You have brought the gift of life And love so long denied me. Suddenly I see What I could not see Something suddenly Has begun |
