Biography
ENCHANT
The Archmage |
|
B I O G R A P H Y
Enchant’s duties include magical research and development, as well as an advisory role to his son and daughter in law. He also occasionally goes out in the field to resume his old battlemage duties, although that is mostly on a whim and not really a part of his regular duties. He has enough to do to keep busy, but his workload is more in line with the lifestyle he wants now. Enchant could not be happier with his new position. |
B I O G R A P H Y
“Penny for your thoughts, bluebird?” Columbine asked, nosing up under his wing like she always did. “I’m getting fat.” “And?” Columbine smiled at him. He’d always liked that about her… she didn’t lie, and didn’t stretch the truth. She’d noticed it too… and she didn’t care. “It just makes you softer to lay on. Has Millie raised any concerns?” “Not yet.” “Well then, as long as you’re still healthy and your doctor doesn’t have any concerns, I wouldn’t worry about it. If Millie says you need to lose weight, you can change your diet then. We pay her to know the health of the clan, love. Trust your doctor. Besides, if you’re really that concerned, we can just nest more to burn off the calories.” She giggled and nipped his side, then curled her tail around one of his forelimbs as she passed him. Enchant smiled and followed right behind. If she liked it… well, she was the one he had to impress anyway. He could get used to it. |

OLD BIO:
The Patriarch
(Columbine x Enchant)
As the clan grew, Columbine regrettably had to pull away from her battlemage duties to focus on administration. Her fighting team needed a skilled battlemage with years of experience on the field already, and fortunately Clan Lunam had one. They warned her about his nasty attitude and tendency to be a bully. They warned her about his magic, trained to terrifying extremes. They warned her about his tendency toward disrespect, and how distrustful he was, and his lack of moral focus, and how he had a tendency to shred adult dragons who got in his way. All true. All very, painfully, woefully true. They didn't know how vain or insecure he was either, or they'd probably have warned her about that too.
They did not warn her that Enchant was intelligent, perceptive, and resourceful. They did not warn her that once his interest was piqued, he had a work ethic the size of the Shade. Being Lightning-flight, rather than the Ice clans Enchant had spent his life in, Columbine's response to his boasting wasn't "You can't be serious" or "stop bragging." Her response was "Prove it." And he could. And he did.
He and the Matriarch spent hours and hours talking magecraft-theory and experimenting with different magical combinations. Enchant had not only his battlemage duties, but active projects to engage him. He didn't lose his general distrust or his aggressive demeanor at all, but having a friend with common interests did a lot for Enchant's mental well-being.
He'd also taken on field-medic duties before he was installed as Columbine’s second. He dismissed outright that healing could be useful in battle. Columbine's response was "Prove it." In a publicpissing contest magical battle, Columbine and Enchant squared off against each other despite protests from every single other dragon in the lair. Columbine's magical strength was lower, but she had the nimble feet of a Mirror and the ability to heal herself. The last thing Enchant heard before he fainted was Ivanna calling for a medic and Columbine's mirror victory-scream. And that was when she earned his respect. He has since learned healing magic, and while he doesn't directly follow orders, he's the one dragon in the lair besides Fiver who isn't ultimately expected to. He's earned Columbine's respect as well, and she treats him as an equal.
Enchant never lost his distrustful, condescending, aggressive nature. He hated every single other one of his old clans, but now he wouldn't leave Columbine's clan for all the treasure in Sornieth.
After all, it took an intelligent, easily-bored, distrustful, justifiably confident, skilled battlemage with a broken past and an even more broken moral compass to know one. And now that Critter is gone, he and Columbine no longer have to pretend. He is her Second, her mate, and her best friend. All final decisions rest with her, but she’s made it clear that in her absence, Enchant is the one in charge. He makes a natural Second, and a natural fit for the brilliant and temperamental matriarch.
