It doesn't bother me all that much." The young mirror looked distant for a moment, flicking the ash of her cigarette into a convenient trash can and blowing a pensive plume of smoke. "What I DID get are their brains. Biology's a magic all its own. Somethin' I learned from my home clan's biologist is that the active ingredient in catmint will make a harpy hen sterile. You know what else I found through my research? Maren are very very sensitive to phosphorous in the water. The same stuff that makes plant roots grow thick and strong will absolutely annihilate a maren's ability to fight off infection. Dump a little bit of fertilizer in the heart of a Maren city and within a month a plague will have wiped out most of 'em." Navarre focused all four of her cyan eyes on the slowly burning ash as she reclined back against the wall. "Something a lot of dragons don't understand is that the beastclans won't stop until all of us are dead. Let 'em into your homes, and they'll kill you in your sleep. That's just how they are. There's no peace with them. If you want safety and security for dragonkind, you gotta wipe 'em out. And that's where I come in." The young mirror stuck the cigarette in her mouth and tossed her head, beckoning you to follow. "C'mere. Lemme show you somethin'." Navarre threw open a cabinet on the other side of her lab and beamed proudly. Inside it were drawer upon drawer of different chemicals, labeled with their proper names and one or more beastclan species names. She pulled out one in particular and held it up: a sickly looking greenish liquid sloshed ominously inside its container. "This one... this one is mine and mine alone. It's called Beastclan-Specific Nerve Agent, or BSNA for short. It's cheap, it's reliable, and dragons can eat it or snort it up their butt or whatever they want to do with it with no ill effects. But I haven't found a beastclan species it won't kill." There was a wicked gleam in Navarre's eyes as she put the container back. "When the war comes, when we have to fight them, when we are finally ready to drop our illusions of peace and trade... We'll be ready. I'll be ready." "And after? Well... well, after comes peace, I suppose." Her face turned almost... mournful, somehow, as she stubbed out the last of her cigarette and walked away. -. |
