Past and Recruitment
There were so many young dragons. From hatchling up to nearly-grown, Nanami's lair was always filled with growing little ones. Her parents had many of their own nests as well as others that they fostered. As such, it was easy for the small, quiet skydancer to get lost in her own world and activities. Activities such as figuring out how to secure - and hence get around different types of security - her own few belongings so that others wouldn't take them. In addition, Nanami adored figuring out all sorts of puzzles. There wasn't a mental exercise she didn't want to try. And physical locks and obstacle courses were a joy for her to make her way into and through. Being small, quick, dexterous, and extremely smart meant that she excelled at all sorts of infiltration. Wanting peace, quiet, and adventure at an early age, Nanami left her home and just randomly traveled around Sornieth. She usually only stayed in one place for a few days to perhaps a week or two at a time. She would find something that peaked her interest and figure out how to acquire it... then leave town without fanfare after she solved the challenge that she set for herself. Nanami seems very sweet, gentle, naive, and harmless. Which is why she was a perfect fit for StarBlind's plan. Though Nanami usually works alone, this job promised a lot of opportunity for fun and mayhem... as well as a lot of loot. The fact that she felt the need to improve things for the bitter, revenge-seeking dragon that hired her was just a bonus. |

The Con
Nanami had tried her best to get the two actual dancers in the group to add some more acrobatics to the routine, but they had vetoed the idea. Something about the others not quite being as flexible as she was. Cowards. Still, this was kind of fun. She liked the idea of being hidden behind a magical mask. It meant she was still completely unseen while being seen... Like most of her other adventures, Nanami's trips into the smaller entertaining lairs of the town's leading family were quiet ones. Once the servants that attended the places - mostly the prettier family members of the mine's workers... the town leaders couldn't have anyone unattractive dancing attendance on them every day - had been informed of their employers' plans, they'd quite happily pretended not to see anything at all. Not that there would have been much to see, even if they'd been looking. The skydancer was very, very good at her job. It took three nights, but Nanami easily lifted the most valuable pieces, along with any coins she found, from each of the heavily decorated lairs. Melisandra had been through the day before each break-in and had set magical time bombs on the more robust security spells. All Nanami had to do was make sure she was there just after the spells imploded for a short amount of time before resetting. Child's play. She'd even found a couple of hiding holes that hadn't been spotted on the quick tour and cleaned those out as well. Their loot had been stashed in various places in the city, in the hands of trusted associates that had been chosen by Nightwitch. By the night of the party, the family had already been mostly cleaned out of their liquid assets and they hadn't even known it. But the job wouldn't be complete until they finished clearing out the main vault in the massive lair that was the family's main domicile... The chaos that was swirling wildly on the main floor beyond the stage was exhilarating. Nanami almost wished she could dance through the middle of it to see if she could dodge all the whirling bodies, but she had bigger fish to fry... time to go team up with her hacker friend and get through the last door that would lead to a brighter future for this town. |

The Future
Nanami was really going to have to get the name of the architect that had designed this particular lair. All the exposed beams, supposedly just for show more than structure, were very sturdy. They were almost like a highway system above the halls just begging to be used by someone who didn't want to be seen. Others rarely looked up, she'd found. Once she reached the vault, Nanami perched happily until Melisandra showed up. A giddy feeling fluttered up her belly, and Nanami put most of it down to the sheer exhilaration of the moment. But she responded to her partner's teasing with equal fun and then watched the hacker work, utterly enthralled by the sheer amount of concentration the other dragon was putting off. It was really amazing. After Esmeralda had cleared out after the brief interruption and let the hacker finish her work, it didn't take much longer. Nanami gave a slight bow at the challenge issued after the spell came down, and set to getting through the massive door. In addition to the tumblers in two different locks, there was a combination dial as well. The timing was close, but Nanami beat Melisandra's time by a few seconds and paused to give the other Player a gamine grin before they slipped inside the vault. Breathless with glee, the two skydancers took a moment to drink in the loot they were surrounded by. Shortly, however, they were concentrating on sacking up anything portable enough to take and getting it ready to be hauled out by their helpers that would arrive soon. Nanami couldn't wait to get her hands on her portion of the take... but she found that even the thought of all of the shiny things couldn't erase some of the disappointment inside. Once this was over, they were going to go their separate ways. It had almost been like having a real family, for a while. One that understood that even though you were different, you still had a vital place in the world and people who could appreciate you. Maybe she wouldn't let them get away. Nanami was a thief... maybe it was time to steal her a family. She'd never failed to get a prize before, and she definitely wouldn't now. |
