Botany
"There is no life without autonomy; no life without movement, be it forward or backward."

Uh-oh, looks like this determined Imperial wandered a little too far from his home lair (#35390, gayzashi), and now he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the urge to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him home, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here.
From birth, Botany has known of the hardships of his home lair, one he has grown distant from. The bright eyes of the clan’s founders grow dull when they think no one’s looking, and most dragons that pass through decline the offer to stay, driven by concern for the husk of the Imperial his own father has become.

He knows the bubbling pits of contagion hold no home for a dragon that wishes to breath freely, without the spores of infectious fungi that coat the ground and stick to his father's scales.

Botany's ready to leave. Perhaps one day, he'll come back, if only to persuade old clanmates to leave, or check on his family. For now, however, he's ready to find a world more befitting of the life he seeks.

220519 - He traveled south to the continent of Ice… to the Fortress of Ends, and at its foot, a large clan that had escaped the disease of their former home. This gave him some hope for his clanmates to find escape from the filth of his former home. The darker tale of the clan, however, told of their former clan leader… the disease she’d been born with, incurable. She chose to freeze herself in the ice of the sleeper’s cavern, only to emerge from frozen slumber on rare occasion. It reminded him unpleasantly of his father’s fate. He couldn’t help but wonder if the frozen leader was at least free of infernal suffering while in her icy stasis... It was time to move on. As much as everyone here seemed to be thriving, a heavy sadness lingered in the air for those that were still sick... and eventually time would catch up with them.

43699 - He found his next place to stay not far away - he didn't have much of a choice as a pair of dragons ambushed him. Of his element, energy and bloodlust ran ferociously through their veins. He barely escaped with his life: the two were strong, and especially the female seemed to desire to feed on his body. Again he felt disgust towards his homeland. Fortunately, the sound of fighting attracted the clan’s attention, the territory of which the pair protected. He was healed and given food and a place to rest. He talked with many dragons in the clan, heard about its past that too was one of decay and sudden resurrection. So perhaps there was hope. The clan seemed to be doing well, although darkness lingered among its members: looking at the pair that attacked him, he saw no reason to be optimistic yet.

516010 - Botany found himself back in the domain of the Plaguebringer, though the area he traveled through now seemed much more tranquil and welcoming, a place not yet scoured by disease and famine. A cool breeze ruffled his fur and the crashing of waves filled his ears. Cheerful faces met him, more of his kind… maybe not every Plague dragon was as bad as he thought. He spent the next few nights in a den provided to him by the villagers and ate warm meals throughout every day. He almost wanted to stay, but he knew he couldn't remain in this place anymore.

519176 - Botany soon found himself in the sweltering, oppressive heat of the Ashfall Wastes. And they reminded him too much of home and the life he had left behind: the heat of the land almost seemed to oppress each dragon he came across, making them lethargic and sapping their strength. He assumed all dragons within the Ashfall Wastes were like that, until he came across a cave housing a large group of Banescales and a lone Guardian. Deimos offered him a place to stay until nighttime, when the air was cooler. Botany agreed to stay for a few hours at least, and soon found himself listening to the stories of some of the resident Banescales. Many of them had also fled their homes, and it filled him with hope. These dragons had come away from tragedies far stronger than he could ever imagine. And more importantly, it was their choice to create their own destinies. Maybe he could inspire dragons back home with the tales of these dragons someday. Maybe someday. Maybe.

508264 - Botany’s wanderings took him from one extreme to the other: from the heat of the Ashfall Wastes, he found himself once again in the Southern Icefields. He found a cozy inn, tucked into a cave system. Many travelers were coming and going, but for the most part Botany was happy to spend some time on his own… until he met Gillica.

She was bold and fearless, having many of her own stories to tell about her travels. They shared stories for hours... and eventually a nest as well. But the road continued to call to each of them, and when their nest was empty, they parted ways. Maybe they will see each other again someday, but for now, Botany is content to continue his travels.

c1Mv73h.png

509537 – Botany’s explorations took him next to the Sea of a Thousand Currents, where he found a temporary lair with the clan led by Tianteng. Botany not only adapted easily to the clan’s routine but also found another partner: Akira. Still, after their nest was empty, Botany decided it was time to return to his travels.

Botany traveled east from the Sea of a Thousand Currents to the country of the Sunbeam Ruins, where he found a welcoming inn to rest his weary bones. The dragons there were happy to accomodate him, and he spent some time in the sundrenched Meadow at the crown of the hill. It was peaceful.

And yet... something nagged at him, some instinct of his Plague heritage that he had long tried to ignore. He couldn't identify it.

So when Ilmari invited him to continue traveling, he accompanied the Pearlcatcher.
