The first Crystalline Gala celebrated in the Arctic Thaw was the day of Cassus' first flight.

Months after Wren emerged from stasis, the Polar faction became recognized within Omnia as a leader in the Southern Icefield. Growing slowly, the members waited in sheer excitement for the festival of the Ice flight; though they were removed from the Icewarden and his prison blocks in the coldest regions of the domain, they still sought it necessary to celebrate the land they hailed and ruled from. As well, with the rampant dichotomy between the warmer north and the colder south, a time to reflect on their roots was deemed a necessity to keep infighting at a low.

Finally, after a year of twiddling claws, the dawn of the Crystalline Gala crested the boreal woods, and every member of the faction greeted the new day with elation. Festivities began early with bountiful feasts, exchanging of gifts and games held by the faction's leaders. Despite tensions between hemispheres, the Gaolers mingled with ease, and took solace in each other's company. As the day drew to a close, one of the newest Polar members, Winter, decided to pay homage to the first of many celebrations to come. Through hours of hard work chiseling away at ice, the youngster revealed his sculpture; while most were shocked at first to see a Spiral instead of a Gaoler, Wren immediately recognized the figure as his old friend Frostorm, whose story he told often to newcomers in his clan. Touched by the gesture, Wren decided to bless the statue with the very ice-born relic the ancient Spiral was sworn to protect, and as the dragons all retreated to their dens for the night, the sculpture carefully closed it's claws around the artifact.

Cassus' first few breaths were laboured and cold. Opening his eyes to the light of the full moon, he shook the snow that had accumulated along his serpentine spine, shifting his gaze to his palm. The relic glistened with shimmering frost, and as he scraped a careful claw along the surface, he saw his reflection in the crystal glass. He was made of pure ice, eyes empty and swathed in clouds of snowflakes. Unsure of many things in his brief existence, two things were paramount; he had to protect the artifact, and he had to fly away. So, with quivering wings and icy puffs, he wriggled into the air as best an ice construct could, quickly disappearing into the night sky.

No one could agree on who had stolen the sculpture the next morning, but Cassus made sure to tell the old Gaoler king just what had taken place (give or take a few details), and assured he would do his best to protect the clan from harm.
