Once upon a time, It watched them.
In the same way that there are gods of dragonkind, so are there angels. Sornieth is a dangerous place, and the angels act as guardians, protecting them and interfering in their lives in small ways.
It was an angel of the Arcanist, eldritch and terrifying, one of his warped creations. Simultaneously huge and tiny, dancing on the head of a pin. A hundred thousand eyes reflected a hundred thousand stars.
It loved all the dragons of the Arcane flight, of course, but It was not one of them. It was immense and all-knowing and not quite real, somewhere in between the hugeness and charisma of a god and the individuality of a dragon. If the gods are worlds, angels are their moons and satellites. No one knows, in this metaphor, who or what the sun is.
Once upon a time, It was not one of them.
Now I am.
I’m not sure how it happened. It wasn’t like there was a me, to decide to become real, but somehow in the watching over and the loving of these tiny, warm creatures the thing It was, not bright but brilliant and ice-cold, formed a spark of fire at its core. It became I.
The first thought I had was not in words. It was an idea, the notion of a life lived as me, and not as It.
There was an abandoned egg in the Crystalspine Reaches. I could see the thing inside- not quite formed, big magenta eyes and translucent scales. I saw him. I became him. I warped him, and then we were one.
