"I live to please, Zane." Darjeel stated as he filled his Author's teacup with freshly brewed goodness. "It's your favorite."

"You know me so well, Darjeel." The Skydancer gripped the cup in his claws, picking it up from his work desk, and inhaled the aroma. "Ah...just what I needed. What would I do without you, Darjeel?"

"I'm sure you would get by."

"Oh I'm not so sure. I've gone through so many Assistants who simply did not mesh with me...but you are a true friend."

Darjeel's head snaked back a ways in shock. "...a...friend?"

"Oh yes! You enjoy my works, you keep me grounded, and you're a treat to just be around."

"..." Darjeel pondered this for a moment. Who had ever heard of an Author being friends with his Assistant? It almost seemed scandalous! A conflict of interest, even! And yet...to be held in such high regard by such an acclaimed Author...Darjeel could feel his pride puff up just a little...or maybe more so...

Having no clue how to react to his Author's kindness, the Imperial simply bowed and walked out of the chamber.

Soft spoken, reserved, and dutiful, Darjeel often seems more like a butler than an Assistant. He brews wonderful teas, cleans more than he proofreads his Author's works, and does not get himself involved with the pointless gossip of Pearlcatcher Fates. Like any Assistant, however, he takes immense pride in vowing his life to his Author.

Darjeel works for the somewhat controversial Author Zane, whom the Imperial sees as a misunderstood genius. Zane's carefully plotted towing of the line between good and evil makes for complex Characters, and Darjeel loves to read over his Author's work and learn of the inner and outer conflicts created in the wake of Zane's quill strokes.
