_______Hyperion_______
He lacked any real status as a dragon even with such a powerful sounding name and beautiful scales. A wildclaw with no ancestry to trace back to was seen as something unwanted. Hyperion knew somewhere he'd once had parents, maybe even siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins... a whole clan! But they left his life when he was still much too young to remember them. The fact he survived at all was a miracle, though the timid dragon wasn't sure how he'd managed to get so lucky. The wildclaw decided it had more to do with the strangers who had found him and taken him under their wing, pitying the ragged appearance of a lost hatchling. As he grew, he learned he was to keep his distance from them, having been saved only to act as bait to lure in other wildclaws who might wish to steal an unclaimed youngling. Unfortunately, he didn't stay small forever and he was left behind suddenly by them along with a skydancer orphan who had also been used to beg passerby's for scraps and treasure. On their own, the pair grew closer and eventually became parents once they were old enough. Hyperion had never felt so proud at the sight of having his own family. The wildclaw swore he'd do everything to protect them from harm. But life doesn't always work out that way. Sickness spread through his young, taking many while they tried to find a healer in Earth's barren landscape. One of the three survived. However his mate and other hatchlings were left behind, buried under a makeshift grave of rock. Hyperion watched his remaining hatchling grow up, knowing his son wished to see a world outside of Earth. It was bittersweet to see his last hatchling take flight to Wind, wishing to start a life of his own. He could have followed. However, Hyperion remained; it wasn't his place to intrude uninvited on his son's life. The wildclaw set out once more to make his own way in the Earth flight. Eventually he would settle down and start a new family with another skydancer. The pair had two daughters he adored, spoiling them as they grew up. It was wonderful to see them strong and healthy... Until fate once more reared its ugly head. A cave in nearly wiped all of them out. Although Hyperion managed to get his daughters to safety, his mate hadn't been so lucky. The grief made him distant. Eventually his daughters left him for the Water flight to find their own destinies. It would take him years to recover. When he did fall in love again it was once again with a skydancer. The pair had a son and daughter this time. Once again, one was weak and sickly upon hatching and he painfully watched as his daughter faded away. Hyperion was extra vigilant about his son and mate, almost paranoid something would happen to them. The fear would fade as his son continued to grow stronger and into a fit young dragon. When it was time for him to leave, Hyperion's mate left with him. She claimed she'd be returning but despite waiting... she never did. Eventually, the wildclaw would recieve the news that she was alive and well elsewhere in Earth. He'd simply been abandoned. The whole flight left a bad taste in his mouth. It was bad luck to stay and bad for his peace of mind to linger on the memories created there. Hyperion left for Arcane, hoping he'd fit in better there with his brighter scales anyway. He joined the Verum Adamas Realm shortly after it had been created. Due to his lack of status in other clans or from his ancestors it was difficult for him to find a place at first. The fact he was quiet and kept his mouth shut however became his saving grace, earning him a slightly better job than some dragons. Hyperion's appearance certainly helped too, as the royal family clearly valued looks. While he is a humble servant to the royal family, Hyperion still gets to have some benefits of working directly for the throne. With his current life of servitude and pampering, which he feels is deserved after his lot in life, the wildclaw doesn't think he'd ever want to leave. |
