48692192p.png Subject Name: Ulysses
Affiliation: Bleak Meadow Prison
Gender: Male
Rank: Guard

Condition: Alive
Personality: Confident, Strong

Origin: Earth, Nature, Currently in Plague
Past Affiliation: Guard in a Nature clan

Ulysses was a dragon born with a strong sense of justice. Due to his birth clan having a peaceful home, he left in search of a different place to live where his ideals and skills could be better put to use. The young mirror soon found himself in a small Nature clan where he seemed to fit in quite well at first as a guard to defend them from attacks—usually from Plague dragon patrols or thieves living in the jungle.

As was well... at first. It soon became apparent that they expected him to settle down with a dragoness and raise a family. Ulysses hadn't considered such a thing, at least not with any of the females in the clan, but went along with the pressure to avoid possible conflict. The mirror tried to convince himself that his lack of feelings was just because he hadn't gotten to know his mate yet, that his feelings may change when their nest hatched. They did. In a way. He loved his hatchlings and was fond of his mate yet... he didn't love her. When she'd caught on, he'd been kicked to the curb by his mate and barred from seeing his hatchlings—something she was surprisingly good at enforcing when the clan was so small.

Ulysses was hurt but got over it, eventually taking on another mate in hopes the first one was just a fluke. But in the back of his mind the truth was starting to dawn on him. Again he had a nest and again he loved and cared for his hatchling but couldn't bring himself to feel the same way about his mate as other dragons did theirs. This time, he moved first, letting her know he'd come to realize he was into guys before she could figure it out. Ulysses was fully prepared to face the back lash... and was pleasantly surprised to hear his mate understood and was willing to end things amicably with him.

The mirror was grateful, though didn't remain in the clan any longer after that. With two ex-mates he'd soon be the most gossiped about dragon in the clan. Ulysses said his goodbyes and left. For a while, he simply roamed Plague, taking on his own vigilante style of justice on egg thieves and any other criminals he could find. The freedom was lonely but had given him time to truly come to terms with who he was. Soon enough, the mirror was happy and confident in himself for more than just his skills as a defender of justice.

Things took another positive turn when he met a patrol of dragon during another scuffle with some mirror pack known for stealing hatchlings and eggs. He joined their group and was quite taken with their high goals of keeping an Emperor dragon asleep; he'd never seen one himself until then and stories about the beasts were meek in comparison to seeing the real thing. It was around this time he also met a tundra named Venger.

He quickly became aware of Venger's fascination with him and didn't hesitate to help provide guidance to the tundra. The two grew close as they worked and trained together and he was glad to see Venger growing in confidence with his help. The pair didn't really become official until after Venger's father died. It was a hard blow for the tundra but Ulysses stuck with him through his grief as a source of comfort. He hadn't even been aware when they went from companions to mates but one day that realization dawned on him and the two wordlessly accepted that was what they were. For once, his relationship felt joyful and unforced.

The pair would go on to be selected for a quest alongside Rolan and Saiph to check out Sugar Meadow's old home in Light. The journey was long and tough at times but Ulysses would say it was worth it. On the way, he'd gain a daughter, Echo, and soon after a son, Kai. At the time, he and Venger would think they'd adopted two mutated tundras, however that would change when Khaadgrim and her patrol of gaolers crossed their paths. Neither hatchling belonged to them but they did learn these hatchlings were in fact gaolers rather than tundras—not that the pair cared, the two would be their hatchlings no matter what.

Still, the development put a strain on things. Luckily, Venger stuck by his side and convinced him to give the ancients a chance. After some internal conflict within their own patrol that lead to some disappearances, Ulysses began to feel uneasy. However the conflict was cleared up with the problem dragons gone and he lead the way back to their home in Plague to report their findings and introduce their new allies.

New dragons in the camp would inevitably cause issues again. In particular, a wildclaw named Hope. He was aware the wildclaw had a crush on him and made every move possible to show he wasn't interested. Ulysses hadn't realized how badly she'd take such a rejection. A mirror pack attacked the camp and afterwards he learned of Hope's plot to use them as a distraction to take Venger out of the picture. Thankfully, while badly injured, his mate survived. Hope, however, did not. The mirror wasn't sure if he was glad to have her gone or disappointed she wouldn't receive proper punishment for her crimes.

Losing his mate to horrible rockslide injuries crushed him. Ulysses had stayed by Venger's side as often as possible, knowing survival was unlikely but always hoping. He took another blow to the heart when he lost his adopted daughter Echo as well. The worry that Kai would be next ate away at him... Until he learned his own adopted son was a killer. Ulysses was horrified to see how far Kai had taken to getting revenge on those who hurt his family and how lacking his morals were for going about it.

With the prison built, Kai was taken prisoner. Ulysses joined as a guard and occasionally visits his son, though conversations are usually one sided if they occur at all. Most are filled with silence. Often the mirror wonders if how Kai turned out is his fault and wishes he knew where it all went wrong while raising him. He also wishes Venger were still around to talk about it with. Ulysses still carries a lock of the tundra's fur as a reminder of his mate.

The arrival of a gaoler hatchling who's incapable of growing up at first didn't interest him. However, it seemed gaolers gravitated towards him as Sheilah loved being around him. It alarmed him even more when she mentioned the tundra and gaoler following him, especially when the forever hatchling described Venger and Echo. The pain of knowing the hatchling could see and summon spirits twisted his heart. She hadn't meant to harm him by letting him know and trying to help him speak with them, but he wanted his family to move on.

He took that advice himself as well. Ulysses had grown fond of the hatchling and taken Sheilah in as his new adopted daughter. The mirror of course mentioned Kai but refuses to let her near the other gaoler or the prison in general for her own safety. She often gets disappointed by it but as a forever hatchling, easily gets distracted by something new. The mirror makes sure to spoil his daughter and is happily finding he's able to move on from the deaths of Venger and Echo, though he'll never fully forget about his times with them.
