Biography

H E R A
"queen, protectress" | Second Child | Deity of Venus

On the second day of the Arcanist's Awakening, a mother dragon wept.

She was not a mother, though. Never had been. For several season cycles she and her mate tried and tried, and each clutch became grey and rotted. Now her beloved mate was dust and she was old and withered. Nobody in her Clan paid her any mind and called her a madwoman, an old winger that was too close to the ground to worry about. But the mother dragon had faith in the reigning dieties of her world, so she stood at the shrine of the Arcanist and cried out for a child.

In his infinite mercy, The Arcanist heeded the old mother's cry. Disguised as an old beggar, he came to her and asked why she cried. The question was a simple one, but it made the old mother cry even harder at the life she never had. The Arcanist heard in these tears the heartbreak and sorrow life had given the mother dragon. Using one of his many vials, he collected some of the tears and returned to the sky. He gathered to him a cloud of stardust and collected a feather from a majestic bird. With a flourish and a burst of old magic, the fifth daughter was born. Hera took her rightful place alongside her siblings and watched over her mother until she passed away. Mother and daughter reunited in the skies, and both can be seen shining in the night sky.

Hera is commonly noted as being the protector of females and nature. Expecting mothers often invoke her during labor or throughout their pregnancy. However, many others ask her for luck and patience. One of her most common associations is with Alchemy, since her birth was one of the first transmutations. So it is not unheard of for alchemists to make her their patron.
