The First Born

Midnight's forced gene change was not accidental, nor was it random.

Shiver, as the Queen of her hive, had the ability to breed with non-Shade Fae dragons so long as their genetic makeup, specifically their colors and gene types, were close enough to her own.

Midnight met the criteria for all with the exception of his tertiary, but Shiver had magic that other dragons didn't, and so she made a slight alteration in order to make him compatible.

The catch was that she didn't need to come into physical contact with a suitable mate to breed with him; she could simply steal his genetic blueprint by means of extraplanar magic, and then combine it with her own in the lava pool deep within her hive's lair. The result: bubbles of lava that hardened into what looked like obsidian orbs, which would slowly grow and begin to take the shape of small dragons curled tightly within a clear membrane. Once they were large enough, the protective eggshell would shatter, and the black dragons would crawl out of the incubation pool.

On this fateful day, four shiny black dragons in the form of Pearlcatchers emerged from the lava pool: four brothers, containing a new set of outsider DNA that gave their black hides hints of other colors.

Silence is a calm dragon that usually keeps to himself. He isn't unfriendly, and will willingly engage in conversation and gossip, though he isn't usually the one to initiate the conversation.
As the Queen's first born successful hybrid, he understands his importance in the role of his growing Hive and holds himself with high regard.

Unfortunately, he has found trouble in locating a potential mate in the indigenous dragons. It seems he may not feel comfortable breeding outside of his species' genepool. Shiver looks to her next son in hopes that perhaps he will be more open to the idea.
