Shiver

Undertaker flew in circles around a seemingly empty piece of land; a sheltered cliffside with caves bored into the side of the stone shelf which jutted straight from the ocean itself, the very barrier of land and sea.

But this area was not empty.

Undertaker could sense them, feel them; some sort of creatures, somewhat dragons, but somewhat not, evading his gaze in plain sight.

He turned on the wind, dropping in altitude as he approached, and as he did his senses began to go wild.
It was like static at first, in the back of his mind, spreading slowly down his neck and into his chest, reverberating like drums in an empty room
He blinked, flickers of movement catching his peripherals, but vanishing when he looked directly at them.

Something was wrong, something was here but it should not be. Something dangerous.

His vision clouded suddenly, the static entering his eyes as his sight slowly faded away along with the sounds around him, until the only sonic input consisted of a high-pitched ringing just barely audible.

And from the almost silent static he heard a single phrase


"We are here."

His stomach lurched painfully as he faltered mid-flight, plummeting from the sky several meters before managing to regain himself. Instinctively, he altered his course away from the area, the static in his eyes quickly fading, followed by the ringing in his ears.

Once he was distant, he looked back, and saw nothing but empty land; the cliffside bordering the sea, with old caves bored into the ancient lava rock.

A feeling of dread overcame him, causing the dragon to look away. This location was a few hour's flight away, but that was still an alarmingly close distance to the place they called home.

He couldn't risk it.

Undertaker took to the wind, catching the current coming up from the sea to gain altitude before heading back for home to report his findings.



Shiver is the queen of a small, nomadic group, called a hive, of Shade Faeries that have taken the form of dragons.
A ghostly dragon like most, she seems to be able to produce offspring with any dragon that comes within a certain proximity, the only prerequisite seems to be that the dragon's hide is as black as hers.

She and her slowly growing family have begun following a clan of dragons containing members that meet breeding requirements. With the help of means somewhat unknown, she managed to use a dragon as a puppet to lead the group of dragons containing suitable hosts back to the homeland; a place in the Ashfall Waste where the veil between worlds has grown thin.

It is here where they, as a species, can begin reproducing again without the use of a native host, creating offspring with a solid tie in the physical domain.

She will not fail.
