Uh-oh, looks like this workaholic wandered a little too far from their home lair (452562, Hyzenthlaay), and now they’re off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt them, we'd really appreciate it if you instead could just return them to their original home via the Crossroads, send them off in the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread (warning, you will get another traveler in return if you do this), or if you don’t want another traveler in return, this rest hub. You can also adopt them permanently if you don’t want them leaving your lair - just contact Hyzenthlaay and let her know (it’s good for her notes)!

Many people have worked very hard on this traveling dragon, and exalting them would be an absolute shame. Please don’t do it!

Quote:
"Numerous occultists, spiritualists, priests, and soul guides span across all of Sorienth, but none so strange as the Luminous Reaper. These brightly colored dragons all bear the same skeletal markings and boast some of the most gaudy color schemes known to dragon kind. They claim to be spirit guides - those that navigate the soul from their body to their final place of resting. However their methods are...unusual to say the least.

The Luminous Reapers believe that in order for the soul to find its place in the afterlife, it must have no regrets. The spirit must see that all it is no longer needed in order for its loved ones to be happy and healthy. Therefore the main part of the funerary rites a Luminous Reaper performs is a large and grandiose festival. These parties all boast colorful decorations, energetic music, toys, games, food, fun, and dancing. A Luminous Reaper believes that when the spirit sees its friends and family celebrating their life without a single tear shed, that it will move on without difficulty.

Some may claim their rituals are just for show, but their powers are very real..."

When the Luminous Reapers of Clan Mavenlark first found Bloodmark, they knew him as one of their own; a lost brother, who despite his insistent cursing and howling at those whom approached him, must have held the values of their species at his core. They recognized his condition as serious and all but tricked him into their care. Bloodmark had worked so long and hard as a Reaper over the centuries that his mind had become one with the unrested dead, and with forced rest came mental peace. Bloodmark slowly found parts of himself - his name first, his personality, memories, jokes, quips, and most of all, his purpose. Almost immediately Bloodmark wanted to restart his duties as a Reaper, but his peers begged him to extend his break. He agreed...and promptly slipped away in the night to continue his work elsewhere. Will he manage to keep his mind intact this time, or has he learned nothing?

This dragon is a member of the Luminous Reapers subspecies. Offspring they have may be eligible to be registered on the subspecies registry if they meet the gene requirements - check the forum requirements to see!

When the clan's guard was down, I slipped from their care into the night. I appreciate all that they have done for me, truly, but what am I without my work? Clans will always have use of us Reapers, and who am I to deny destiny?
MegaraBane, Scattered Scale wrote:
I loitered with this clan much longer than I initially intended. It was fascinating learning of the ghost coatls that live in the woods, but there is no place in this clan for one with as dark a path as mine. I must be on my way.
RubescentClaret, Misfit Manor wrote:
I experienced an interruption on my journey through the Icefield. Initially I thought her a malicious spirit, and I resolved myself to quelling her lingering worldly regrets and desires. However, she is... less than ethereal. Quite corporeal. Our time together bore unexpected consequences.
Festivoog, Oculus Clan wrote:
The energies of the Arcane realm are enigmatic and a little concerning. At times I can’t tell if I’m sensing magical disturbances or spirits of passed dragons. Very hard for me to do my work at this rate. My dreams are crawling with strange images. It might be wise to move on...

My son Hezrul and I have found wonderful respite in the Millmeadows Love Hotel! Neither of us quite understood what made a love hotel different from a regular one, but it was so cozy that I got tragically little done.
Strangeflesh, Corrosionius wrote:
Me and my son made it to a beautiful Scarred Wasteland town, but I didn’t realize that this was where my son’s cursed mother was from. We were met with suspicion and distrust by all, and an unethical scientist seemed all too eager to study Herzul. We left to the outskirts, where we met his only living aunt, a rotting and cursed Gaoler named Eczema. I didn’t trust her, so we left, into the wasteland. Out there, we met a Skydancer possessed by a spirit of pestilence. I freed her from its grasp, but the spirit escaped, to curse another one. I fear that I have failed, as a Reaper and father.

I stayed longer than anticipated in a fire flight's clan. It's clear their shattered lineage needs great work. Oh gods, I will be here a while... I sent my son to continue his journey.

...and so he calls for the old gods of the lake, while the sacrifical lamb lies next to him, tied and shivering.

"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn." The rumbling voice echoes throughout the swamp. Silent whimpers come from the hatchling; it probably already knows screaming won't help.

Ripples appear on the otherwise calm surface and something smooth yet rotten starts surfacing. It varies in color; one moment it's green, then it becomes blue, grey, purple; but all the colors it takes are dull and washed out.
And then there's the stench that follows.

He looks at the undescribable creature appearing in front of him and he knows he must stop it before it sets its foot on the ground.

"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!", he repeats. "I have come with the sacrifice."
There's no time to waste. He can hear it's elongted limbs dragging across the murky bottom, making a rumbling sound similar to that of a coming earthquake, but much more frightening.

One last "NO!" escapes the hatchling before it's rolled into the water by a mere push. It didn't reach too deep; despite being tied up, it can still hold his head above the surface. A tinge of rationale goes through his mind: "He'd be better off if he'd drowned."

But this is his will and this is who he is. Now he must not look away, no matter how much he'd want to, and wait until it's all over-
"Oh god, the sound makes it even worse!"; he thinks as his eyes roll to the back of his head and he slips into darkness.

The air is hot and filled with moisture; yet there are signs of life everywhere. Birds are chirping, bugs are playing their songs, frogs are joining in, light rain starts falling.

Out of the edge and into the light comes a dragon; a creature to be respected and sometimes even feared.

This one doesn't look too well, though. The scales covering his flesh are of purple tones, and the darker one's make him look sickly. Upon closer look, you could see those are about to fall out, which is usually a sign of a disease.

In some places, he is covered by red markings. These have a consistent shine to them, and they always look fresh.

Upon closer inspection, you realize it's actually fresh blood, as if someone had scarred or scratched these marks deep into his skin, underneath the protective layer of scales.

He looks tired, almost exhausted. A few steps after, he drops to the ground and starts shivering. His eyes are closed and if you'd touch him, you'd realize his body is too hot to be healthy.
Still, he curls up on his own, protecting with his body a small sphere. A pearl of sorts, slightly bigger than his paw, is pressed upon his chest.

The blood dripping from his wounds taints it red.

Through his teeth he mutters something in feverish dreams.

"I'll sacrifice all...For you..."

@Hyzenthlaay here! This dragon is officially a part of the "Around the World in 365 Dergs" challenge. Check out the thread for information and more travelers like this! ...or just read the following:
  • The general idea is that I am going to create 365 unique traveling dragons, send them off into the world, and see what happens. I'm also going to complete mini-challenges along the way using travelers. If that interests you, consider checking the challenge thread out!
  • I don't want to overflood the system with just my dragons, so adopting travelers from me to live in your lair is totally fine! In fact, I'm betting on it. Just let me know.
  • Always feel free to tell me when you have this dragon in your lair! I love hearing updates.
