______ Screaming, it echoed through the halls of the castle. Sunburst Covered her ears, Terrified. Never in her short life had she ever heard anything like this, “Mommy? Im scared…” she whispered, covering her eyes with her talons. She felt her mother wrap her talons around her, “Shhh… Its ok Sunburst. You will be ok, I promise.” Sunburst curled up to her mother and pressed her face on her warm chest scales. Another scream reached them from the end of the hall, Sunburst clenched her talons and began to shake. Her mother began to sing in an ancient tongue, as she stroked Sunburst’s face frills, her silky harmonious voice drowned out the sounds of wailing.
Her mother’s singing slowly began to lull Sunburst to sleep, she felt her eyelids grow heavy with exhaustion, “Mommy…” she managed to whisper before she drifted to sleep to the sound of her mother singing the ancient lullaby.

The sounds of talons scraping across the marble floor finally awoke Sunburst from a deep dreamless sleep, Sunburst turned her head around to look at the dragon who had just run in, “Hippolyta! We need to go NOW!” Sunburst’s father said, his eyes darting from his mate and hatchling to look behind him, “We don’t have a lot of time, a lot of guards have sacrificed their lives to help up get out of the castle!” Hippolyta nuzzled Sunburst one more time and clambered to her feet, “Saska..whats going on? One moment I was sleeping on my nest...the next I hear screaming in the halls..” She shook her head and nuzzled his shoulder, “You’re right, we need to leave now before they get to us.” Sunburst ran over to her father and looked at him, “Daddy..Im scared!” her father stopped talking and looked down at her, and his eyes softened, “Its ok Sun-bun.” he said, calling her the nickname he had given to her when she had first hatched.

Another scream came from the hall, this one sounded closer than the last. Saska, swung his massive head around to look at the open door, “I got it.” Hippolyta said rushing over to the door, she shut it and pulled a huge board of wood from behind the curtains, “Saska, help. Its. Heavy” she sputtered between breaths. Her father grabbed Sunburst in one of his talons and swept her onto his shoulder, “Hold on Sun-bun.” he ordered. He grabbed the wooden board from his mate and placed it in front of the door. “That should hold them off until we can get out of here,” he murmured swinging his head wildly looking for the window to the balcony.
