One of his eyes is deep, strong Shadow purple and the other is bright Arcane pink, an incredibly unusual trait for any dragon. Even Merlain's blessing from the Arcanist simply shaded his eyes toward brown. Ethan seems to be able to use either element with equal power, favoring each on their respective sides of his body.
But Ethan's elemental uniqueness runs even deeper, for he also has a third element at his disposal. This magic is weaker than his Shadow or Arcane magics, and seems to be directly connected to the local leylines, as it always matches the element of his surroundings. The lace-like patterns on his belly and wings change color and design to reflect the changing element; ever since he first set foot in the Labyrinth, those patterns have been green, and he has been able to learn and use some of the more minor Nature mage skills.
