Even-headed and strong armed, Leona was proud of the calluses on her hands and the muscle in her limbs from her work. It was hard work, being a mechanic, but she didn’t mind it. Leone laughed off comments that the work didn’t befit a woman or an imperial. Who else’s work was it, she was no other mechanics here. Working with machines all the time was hardly a good way to get to understand others though. This left Leona to be a bit oblivious at times, though she always did her best to be friendly towards everyone. This was rather unfortunate for Skaldi, who had been floundering with a crush on her for some time now.

Curious, creative, and crafty. These words encompass Leona’s approach to life. A natural tinkerer, this Fire dragon spends most of her free time making incredibly detailed mechanical creations. While one day she will create a mechanism that cracks nuts for her smaller clanmates, another day she might put together a bionic wing attachment to allow comfortable flight through thick foliage. Regardless of what she made, Leona’s constant output of clever inventions consistently amazed and delighted those who surrounded her.
During her time living in the Ashfall Waste, Leona developed a special affinity for the creation of small metallic creatures. Although they lacked the functionality of her other inventions, they were by far the ones that brought her the most joy. However, she always felt an emptiness within her, knowing that her amazing creations would never be able to really ‘exist’, as she lacked the ability to breathe life into them. One day, this would all turn around.
A traveling arcane nocturne by the name of Baz happened upon Leona’s workshop. As he sat there, marveling at the lifelike-appearance of each sculpture, Leona came and plopped down next to him. Happy-go-lucky and outgoing, Leona was delighted to get to know a new dragon during the few breaks that she took from her work.
“Do you like them?” she grinned. The nocturne nodded, a little startled.
“Would you like me to make you one? They’re not the same as having a familiar, since they can’t come to life…” she sighed, but the smile immediately returned to her face. “...but I really enjoy making them!”
A sparkle appeared in Baz’s eyes.
“Bring me your favourite creation, I’d like to have a look at it.”
Unquestioning, Leona rushed off and returned with the sculpture that she took the most pride in, a recreation of a redbolt construct. Baz held it in his claws, inspecting it from every angle. The corners of his lips twisted upwards and he gently blew a cloud of pink mist onto it. To Leona’s disbelief, the redbolt construct slowly started to move, and fluttered out of Baz’s claws to sit on Leona’s shoulder.
“Is it… is it alive??”
“As alive as any other creature. I like your work, Leona,” said the Nocturne “I’d like to invite you to come back to the Starfall Isles with me and serve as my clan’s mechanic. In payment, we’ll make sure you never lack material, food, or time to work on your projects.”
Leona hesitated for a moment. She really loved her clan, so this was a difficult decision to make on such short notice.
“Uh… Can you do that thing that you did, with the pink smoke, whenever you want?” Leona fidgeted nervously.
“Yes, friend. Many of the dragons from my clan have this ability. We are Arcane after all!”
Leona looked at Baz, then looked at her redbolt construct.
“OK. If I come with you... Can you, eh… Can you do that to all my creations?” she mumbled, almost afraid to ask.
Baz nodded. Leona’s whole face lit up, as her deepest desire had just been made possible.
“Alright!!! Give me a few days to get my affairs in order around here, and we can go.”
Those few days did end up turning into a few weeks due to Leona’s slightly chaotic nature, but eventually, she made her way back to the Starfall Isles with Baz. To this day, she works hard making mechanical inventions that make life easier for her clanmates. Her ever-loyal redbolt construct never leaves her side, handing her tools and assisting however it can while she works. She is well-liked by all, as she is reliable and hardworking, even though she tends to lose touch with the dragons in her clan because of the sheer focus that she puts into her work. In her free time, she makes small robotic familiars and toys which she gifts to the hatchlings of her clan. You will never see a more fulfilled-looking dragon than Leona.
