As the name of their profession suggests, Xanna and Ash work with light itself: capturing it, manipulating it, fixing it in tangible form. They make lanterns, yes, and glowing stones, but also explosives and reservoirs of great magical power -- for what can be stronger than sunlight, the force which ultimately feeds all Sornieth? They make weapons to smite the undead and unholy, and sometimes they make unholy things themselves. They also make children, and teach them their craft. Rhiangar's parents aren't quite sure what to make of his work. Most Lightsmiths work small, or at least medium, but Rhiangar creates enormous constructs of black iron and golden sunlight, inscribing them with runes as broad as his own wings. These behemoths have many uses, from siege engines to mobile housing to taking on Emperors. But each one is crafted carefully, inch by inch -- so many inches. Rhiangar, or Ree, as he is known more casually, is one of the most accomplished and impressive artisans in Four Lips. His mark isn't left with carved wood or stacked stones, but with metal and mirrors. He never leaves his creations in town, but assembles them piecemeal in the mountains. Ree won't advertise the locations, and most dragons won't seek them out, but it's not uncommon to be out berry-picking and come across a... thing, heavy and round and shining, just sitting in the middle of a stream with a young tree growing over it. Though friendly, Ree has a constantly distracted air that makes him hard to get to know, as though he's always thinking about his next project. Luckily, his mates Sprinkle and Cupcake are more than friendly enough to make up for it and go great lengths to keep him from isolating himself. Ree isn't above putting his talent to use in more mundane ways, and to that end is the area's blacksmith. He makes nails, repairs tools, and takes on the occasional commission, whether for a decorative fire grate or an impossibly curved mirror. Despite the long hours in the hot forge, he never removes his headgear or the numerous scarves and shawls wrapped around his scrawny throat and shoulders, citing a long-lasting cough. |

Lady once asked Ree to build an apparatus of silver and glass to reflect heat away while letting the light in. It was tricky work but he built it, almost freezing his workshop in the process. Lady thanked him, paid, and took it away into the woods. He hasn't seen it since. |

Sprinkle is the only member of Rhiangar's little group to help him out in the forge. Though the temperatures and smells are too uncomfortable for her to be in there while he's working, she always nips in for the last hour of the day to chat and tidy up. |
