- - - ▢ Personality and Role
Alastair is claws-down the snarkiest dragon that lives with the Gaoler Caravan, and their only cook. He’s a stuck-up perfectionist, being the only Gaoler that is actually talented at making decent food and he knows it. Ever the smug dragon, Alastair has a total monopoly on the food that the Caravan eats. He may or may not use his skills to extort or blackmail others, however, that is the least cruel thing he does as he has a tendency to ruin or tamper with the food of those that annoy him. Seeing those who pose an inconvenience to him have temporary indigestion gives him great joy. However, Alistair is by no means heartless. The Gaoler will always help dragons in pain, as he is able to make potions as well as food. In reality, although cooking is his best and most well known talent, Alastair is also proficient at making potions and building mechanical devices. There are rumors that he has studied under both Baldwin and the Stormcatcher himself, but the purple Gaoler has neither confirmed nor denied them. The allegations, and his control over them, are only another reasons to be smug. Alastair is a jerk to everyone most of the time, everyone except his husband Rhyosymedre. Fortis usually let’s him get away with it, as Alastair’s attitude hasn’t had any terrible repercussions just yet. Of course, the cook is always sure not to pass the line, or even toe it. He knows that if his attitude looses the Caravan a client, then Fortis is gonna be hella mad.

- - - - ▢ History
Alastair came from a small Gaoler group in the Shifting Expanse, a group which still followed traditional Gaoler customs. Therefore, Alastair was given the role Sentry. He didn’t like it though, and much prefers the art of cooking and baking over his old Order. He ran off soon after getting assigned the the Order, and spent his days traveling and training under various mentors, all the while refining his skills. At some point, while searching for raw ingredients, Alastair met a dying Rhyosymedre who had been attacked by bandits. Overcome with sorrow, Alastair worked quickly to build the orange Gaoler a mechanical suit. He ended up saving Rhyosymedre’s life. The two started hanging out together, and eventually fell in love. Rhyosymedre would gather ingredients, and Alastair would cook them. They even adopted a few hatchlings, taking care of them before the young dragons set off into the world. When the Gaoler Caravan came across them, they joined happily.

- - - - ▢ Name
Alastair’s name means protector or defender, true to his Sentry roots. His last name is Taayin, of similar meaning and definition, which he now shares with Rhyosymedre. After all, it is of typical Gaoler custom to take only one last name when two Gaolers who had hailed from the same Order, the Sentry Order in this case, join in a unified bond. Last names are only mixed when Gaolers do not follow typical tradition, such as not being born in a tradition Gaoler reside, or when two Gaolers of different hierarchies decide to mix it. This is even more uncommon, as typically the Gaoler in the more powerful Order shall have their name passed down. His nickname, "Witcher", comes from other more traditional Gaolers dubbing him a witch. Long story.

▢ Trivia

One might call Alastair a witch because he can build robots, true to his Lightning heritage. Yet actual potion-making, and creating sentient life out of literal goo, isn’t considered witchcraft? This confuses Alastair to no end, and he is horribly jealous of Baldwin, who can practice and perfect his craft and be revered for it.
Often uses a lantern to get around in the dark when he's alone, due to his bad eyesight.
He picked up a bat at some point, and now it is his most favored pet. The bat's name is Squeaks.
On an unrelated note, Alastair is bad at naming things. Rhyosymedre usually doesn't let him name the hatchlings they adopt.
Alastair is highly superstitious. He has heard a lot of tales during his travels, and due to an active imagination, he has a tendency to believe most of them. The jewelry that adorns his coat is meant to ward off evil and malevolent spirits. He's a bit sour at the fact that Rhyosymedre won't wear the various trinkets as well, as he only wants to keep his mate safe.
Hates Ysolda with a burning passion, due to the Gaoler's tendency to scare the living daylights out of him. She knows of his superstitions, and tends to use them against him.
