Rajani has been a devout follower of the Tidelord as long as he could remember, and certainly never imagined himself leaving the serene waters of the Tsunami Flats where he could feel the presence of his deity with him as he studied the curious magics of Sorneith from the safety of his tidal pool. The Tidelord was his provider and guardian, and the Sea of a Thousand Currents was the only home Rajani knew--or ever wanted to know. But when the faith of his flightmates wavered and the once-calm waters of the inland sea became tumultuous with unrest, Rajani felt that perhaps the Tidelord had abandoned him and was, for the first time in his life, at a loss of where to go next--but when his clan, led by the tiny Fae Riether, set out away from the stormy seas in search of a more stable harbor, Rajani felt the Tidelord drawing him away from his home. As the Failte Flight made their way far to the south and they passed through the Windswept Plateau and headed toward the frozen tundra of the Southern Icefield, Rajani couldn’t help but wonder why his deity would send him away. And then he met Rieve, and Rajani knew that she was the reason the Tidelord had sent him away. Rieve was mischievous, poking her nose out from between the stalks of the bamboo forest of the Reedcliff Ascent and into everyone’s business, and she was a royal pain in Rajani’s side with her incessant questions--but she was clever and quick-witted and curious, her green eyes lighting up when presented with puzzles and riddles. The other dragons in the Failte Flight laughed and said she was Rajani’s mirror opposite, her restless curiosity the perfect complement to Rajani’s steady patience. Rajani was inclined to agree. When Rieve left her own flight to join Failte, Rajani found himself with a new lifelong friend. Although her research methods were a bit unorthodox and she was a bit more careless with antique scrolls and tomes than he would have liked, her enthusiasm for uncovering arcane secrets and the workings of Sorneith rivaled his own, and the two became fast friends as the flight settled into their new life in the Southern Icefield. When the clan seers urged Riether to leave the Southern Icefield, Rajani was initially relieved at his leader’s insistence on remaining in the south. They had built a new home here, and the peace that came with a fresh blanket of snow was almost as soothing as the calm waters of the tidal pools he remembered, but when the Tidelord came to Rajani in a dream, he threw his voice in with the seers’--it was time for the clan to move on. The Tidelord promised that someday, Rajani would return to the Sea of a Thousand Currents, that one day the storm would pass and the waters would be calm again, but for now, it was time for Rajani and his clan to embark on a new path: the path of Light. |
