______It was as he wanted it. Free from the sniveling voice of his sister. His brother was alright, but then again he never said much. Not that he had to care one wit anymore. They were fools, the lot of them. He was glad that he was separated from them, down in the Hallowed Hall.
It was perfect, from the moist air to the vicious nature of the Angels of Rebirth.
He wanted them all. He wanted them all to bow to him instead of his older brother, weak snake that his older brother was. He was getting soft in his old age. He should be preparing ten times as many Ascendant for their work for the Arcanist! No, twenty times more!
The young mirror nursing his dark thoughts clawed at the crystal floor. His eyes narrowed when he spotted Purpura Squama pacing like an agitated cat.
His brother especially didn't deserve her! The oldest of the Angels of Rebirth was a formidable fighter and would be perfect. Her talents were wasted down here, left to pace in her thoughts.
"Purpura Squama," called the young Mirror, "What's got your tail? You're going to wear a trench in the floor the more you go like that."
Purpura Squama turned her armored head and the Mirror felt the wave of magic power slam into him. IIt made his heart flinch with nerves. Uh oh, he thought, she's moody.
A ferocious hiss came from Purpura Squama. Her saliva flew from under the snout of her helmet. She turned her head away and returned to pacing.
Noctis Timore must be in that chamber, thought the young Mirror, thank goodness she is too bothered to actually think of striking at me. He couldn't let her know that she rattled him though. He needed to establish himself as a formidable presence here! "Fine," he sniffed disdainfully, "Be like that."
The young Mirror heard his brother's voice hiss a greeting to Purpura Squama. It sickened the young Mirror to see Purpura Squama trot inside the chamber like a delighted puppy. She should be trotting to him in that way!
That was it. He needed to challenge his older brother. His talents were being wasted here! He should be leading the Angels of Rebirth in glorious battle! Laying waste to all that stood in their way!
The young Mirror rushed into the chamber, his lips pulled back in an eager smile. "This is it Noctis Timore! I'm fed up with this farce!"
Noctis Timore sat with his forepaws resting on Purpura Squama's head.
It surprised the young Mirror to see her without her head gear. She was as beautiful as he imagined. However he shook his head to pull himself from his fantasies. He needed to defeat his brother now!
"Don't you have something to say," snapped the young Mirror, "I'm going to kill you!"
A snort answered him. Noctis Timore didn't even turn around. "That's cute, Little Stone," he said, "You're going to kill me? Kill death?"
It rankled the young Mirror that his older brother was using the weak little nickname he seemed to be stuck with. Why couldn't he shake that accursed little name? He was not little! Not anymore!
A feral snarl erupted from his throat. He rushed at Noctis Timore, his body low to the ground to go faster. His young muscles burned with the thrill of battle. His brother's back was to him! He could do it!
Or not.
In midair the young Mirror couldn't dodge his older brother. Horror gripped his chest when he felt vicious claws, dripping with deadly menace, strike his chest. His body was flipped with the force of the strike and the air was knocked from his lungs when he hit the crystalline floor. He was gasping, trying to recover, and in his delirium he rolled to his paws only to be caught in Noctis Timore's claws once more. He felt the ground leave him as he was bodily lifted by his brother's strong frame.
He was staring right into the eyes of death, smelling the putrid breath that hissed from underneath the skeletal headdress that adorned his brother. The rustling cloth of his brother's grey clothing reeked of salt and mold.
"So eager are you to build an empire of your own are you," mocked Noctis Timore, "Well why didn't you say so Little Stone?"
The young Mirror gasped and tried to claw at his brother's grip but there was no leaving those vice-like claws. "Fight me for real!"
"Oh please," purred Noctis Timore, "I have no interest in such a weakling. On the other paw you are still strong enough to be of some use...in another time and space! Ha!"
Fear gripped the young Mirror as he was thrown. By the Great Mother, where did Noctis Timore get that strength? He wanted it! All of that strength at his command! Wait, priorities, he had to remind himself. He didn't know where he was. Colors flashed all around him and he felt like he was being sucked down a giant sink hole in a lake.
The colors disappeared to be replaced by darkness lit by bright neon. He plummeted, unable to right himself. His fall was broken though by something softer than the concrete that was all around.
"OW, alright! What kind of idiot uses me as his own personal landing pad," snarled a feminine voice.
The young Mirror looked down and discovered a grumbling Mirror female was what he landed on. She was wearing strange clothing but he kind of liked it. It was so garish that it seemed to work with this land of neon, black, and grey.
"Hmph," snorted the young Mirror, "It's not my fault that you were standing under a rift!"
"A wha-," snapped the female, "Grrrr! Get off!"
She shook him off but he was also keen on getting his paws on firm ground too. The female snapped, "Alright, start talking! Who are you, stupid?"
The young Mirror lifted his head disdainfully. "I'm Empire!"
Wait Empire, he wondered, why did I say that? Well, it was better than Little Stone.
The female bust into laughter. "What kind of lame name is that," she guffawed, "Alright then Empire. Say good bye to this world."
Empire, the young Mirror, saw her paw coming as if it were in slow motion. His eyes narrowed and his lips curled into a malicious grin. He deflected the blow and struck back. In the blink of an eye, he had the female Mirror on the ground completely at his mercy.
"Ha...ha...you think I'd be that easy," he laughed, "I just came out of a rift, you don't know me from Bob."
He leaned his head down to the female Mirror's ear. "In time though," he purred, "All in this land will tremble at my name..."
