AmethystEater traveled to this clan intending for it to be temporary; she wished to learn more about the herbs and poisons available in the Viridian Labyrinth. She found the flowers and herbs in the Everbloom Gardens somewhat lacking, as they were plants for hatchlings to safely be around rather than for an assassin to use, but once the clan traveled to the Shrieking Wilds, she was greatly pleased, and settled in well, despite it being somewhat against her nature.

Her time to leave the clan came upon her far faster than she had expected; and yet she found herself wanting to stay. Those in her temporary clan had become like family to her; many had given her gifts, and Gypsum and Xanthe had even created her an amulet to enhance her latent Necromancer abilities. She had become close to Quetzal and Ziazan, her partners in the coliseum, and it became harder and harder to picture herself leaving them. Later on FrostedNight, a Spiral from her past clan, followed her, and it made her feel more at home, and less inclined to leave.

In the end what kept her in the clan was Ziazan's sudden and completely unexpected death, and the affect that it had on her, her temporary clan, and most importantly [in her opinion], Quetzal. He had told them both on many occasions that they were his closest friends, and those he trusted most in his life, and losing Ziazan shattered him. At first she thought it just to be simple grief; when his plumage began to fade and he became listless, she knew that it was much more than that.

She eventually managed to make him speak to her, and learned that Ziazan died in an ambush when she had left to train, and that she and Quetzal had had an egg, the hatchling passing soon after hatching due to illness. She was no stranger to losing hatchlings, especially to things such as illness, as she has lost many of her own. That two of her daughters had lived was an incredible gift to her. She wouldn't have made it through those times without friends in her original lair, or without Quetzal and Ziazan after she had traveled to the Viridian Labyrinth. Because of this, and because of how painful it was to see him wasting away, she promised to stay with him and help support him emotionally until he can be healthy once again, which took close to five years.

When the time came, however, she found that she simply couldn't do it, and instead set out to carve out her own lair in the clan. It was difficult for her, as it went completely against her nature, but Quetzal, Nilaratan, and CitrusCircuit [before he passed] were more than happy to help her set it up. Quetzal handled the structure, and keeping it sound, while CitrusCircuit and Nilaratan focused on making it very pretty.

When Quetzal was called to the eternal battle, she gave him her blessing and wished him well, asking him to take care of the two daughters, Wisteria and Currant, who had also gone to the Gladekeeper’s side. She broke down later, and was found by Snuggles, who, true to his name, snuggled her while she sobbed out her pain. In the wake of his leaving, she has become far more subdued and tired, and many of the dragons fear that they will lose her yet.

---

In the years since Quetzal's passing, AmethystEater had retired from the battlefield, although she still fights when she is needed. Most of her time is taken up by caring for the hatchlings, who she loves with a fierce devotion, even as they consistently are called to fight in the eternal war. Those who stay, such as Kulap and Vanada, are all the more precious to her because of it. Despite her intense love of the hatchlings and her fierce devotion and protectiveness of her clan, it became quite clear that she was, and has been, hanging on by a very thread, which could be all too easily snapped.

AmethystEater had, for the first time in years, nested, having taken a liking to a rather scatter-brained Fae called Glitter, and they had hatched a single child, Augury. She was healthy at birth and lively, and so AmethystEater finally let herself believe that perhaps this child would live and would stay. Her beliefs were shattered in a night barely a week after her hatching, when the nearby beastclans banded together and attacked the lair. She and her little one had been cornered, and though she fought with as much ferocity as she ever had, her little Augury was slain from behind by a Raptorik.

The entire clan was alerted the moment it happened by a long, hideous shriek of grief, followed by the cackling of the Raptoriks surrounding her. There was no rage, no anger left in her, and instead she simply gave up. She was near-dead when Snuggles, for once using his accidental power of invisibility in battle, finally managed to fight his way through the ranks and dispatch the Raptoriks surrounding her. The instant the battle was over the healers of the clan began the fight for her life.

AmethystEater was catatonic throughout the entire process, and when she didn't wake in a week, and another, then another, to the point where she had been unconscious for the entirety of the winter, the healers began to lose hope. Green and growing things surrounded the den that they had formed for her, and many a passing by dragon would whisper that the Gladekeeper was finally calling one of her greatest warriors. "Glade's Touch" became a commonly heard and repeated oath, and the clan began to mourn.

Glitter had been by her side ever since her near-death, casting down spells at the Raptoriks and desperately trying to save his friend and child, even though he hadn't truly understood what was going on. In the months of her coma state he could often be seen snapping at the vines that grew too close to AmethystEater, seemingly believing that the vines were Bad. When winter began to creep into spring and the vines grew too numerous to contain on his own, he enlisted the help of The Hive, and anywhere up to twenty Faes would be in the den at a time, not understanding Glitter's panic but more than wiling to help. At night Glitter never seemed to sleep, instead staring off into a heavily mossed over corner and almost imperceptibly hissing at it throughout the night.

But with spring and its constant touches of death came hope; herbs and flowers that the healers had desperately needed all winter long finally came into bloom, and the air and surrounding forest of the clan became filled with flitting, darting, chittering Faes, comparing lists of ingredients with what had been found and searching out what still remained unfound. It was Kerr who finally found the flower that saved AmethystEater's life, and finally allowed the weary Glitter an opportunity to sleep.

Ever since her near-death, AmethystEater has found herself constantly shadowed by Faes or hatchlings, who, as the smallest dragons, are the best suited for keeping an eye on a beloved Snapper. Glitter has rarely ever left her side, often choosing to ride in the small leather bag she always wears if no hatchling has already claimed it as their own.

While the rest of the clan is relieved that AmethystEater is alive and awake, Glitter knows better. He has felt the touch of death, heard the call of Lightweaver demanding his presence by her side. He knows the pain and strain it puts on a soul to remain on the mortal plane after such a touch, and so he remains nearby should she ever need someone to talk to, or perhaps simply to listen. Scrambled mind or no, he will always listen to those whose hearts radiate such sadness.
