History

Edwin grew up in the Dawnwood Colony, which, though only a mid-sized fae colony, is still a much larger group than most dragons are accustomed to participating in. He had many different occupations open to him, but he was pushed toward academia due to his success in that area. Like many others of his family, he attended Light Academy South (the nearest university to the colony), where he specialized in surveying and cartography.

LAS had Edwin interacting with with more dragons of different breeds and flights than he had ever met before. He soon learned to perch on surfaces closer to other dragons' eye level, and express emotion using words. While it was easier to communicate with other fae, he was determined to learn how to live in mixed-breed situations, because his chosen path might take him all over Sornieth.

He was in the same botany class as Telperion, and on a field trip, he sensed a strong magical field and asked her to accompany him to investigate it. It turned out to be Glowtree Grove, a place of captivating beauty - and Tel's Charge. She was clearly terrified of having to care for it alone, so he offered to help however he could until she had what she needed for the task. He knew that he would be giving up some opportunities by doing this; at the very least, he would be dropping out of his current classes and delaying his graduation. What he had not expected was to stay longer and longer and eventually fall in love with Tel.

In the early days of the clan, Edwin was the general administrator, managing the food stores, building projects and guard schedule. Since the clan has grown, he can focus on managing the library - a full-time job in itself - and drawing. Since the establishment of the post office, he has been able to continue making progress on his degree by correspondence.

Edwin is responsible for the care of the clan's knowledge base. He also makes a small income selling maps of the area.

Role in clan: Knowledge administrator
Edwin makes sure that what the clan learns through studying its territory is not forgotten, and that the books and scrolls are cared for. He also manages text lending between Brightleaf and the Light flight's university system in both directions.

Skills and hobbies
Learning the Coatl language was initially a hobby, but it eventually became important as a coatl joined the clan.

Personality and quirks
Edwin is a firm believer in the notion that there is a right way to do things - we just need to figure it out! This occasionally gets him into trouble, but he is learning to empathize more. Clear communication is paramount to him. Like all fae, he naturally speaks in a monotone, using his crests for nonverbal communication; unlike most fae, he sometimes tries to indicate emotion using rising or falling tones in his speech, which does succeed at communicating his intentions more clearly... as soon as one learns his particular patterns.

Clan interactions
Most dragons have trouble understanding him because they do not know how to read his crests. Tel has learned most of his body language. Cass knows some, but with Cass he has to "shout".

Trivia

Family is very important to Edwin, and he meets up with family and colony members whenever he can. However, Brightleaf is far enough away from other population centers that it would be difficult for him to travel on his own. More often he writes letters that he sends along with Gilmour or the traveling merchants who help him the Ward trade with Dawnwood for such things as resin goods and fae-sized wooden implements.

He rests in a sap roost up high in the original lair building. He has additional roosts and structures on some of the glowtrees for when it's his turn to guard. The Grove itself gives him a steady supply of magic to cast from if he needs to fight off intruders.

Edwin's first child was a male guardian. When he was hatched, he was already Edwin's size, and many times heavier than the heaviest adult fae.

His favorite food is the firebugs which are found in and around the Grove in large numbers.

Finally put into the den on 5 Aug 2021, when my mire flyer was finished.
Origin of name: I came up with the name "Edwin" myself. I don't know why.
