- - - ▢ Personality and Role
Xanthippos is the best Mediator of the group, as well as the only true vegan. Those two details are only vaguely related. He's a very "soft boy", moreso due to his personality rather than any physical aspects, given the hard spikes that protect his shoulders and line his back and tail. He's very cuddly and kind, and kind of a pushover. He can be described as a "little duck", due to an inability to stand up for himself, finding it much easier to just take orders and go along with them. Luckily, no one has been able to use this to their advantage, as Xanthippos has a loyal bodyguard in the form of his mate, Peace. Xan loves almost all fruits and vegetables, and is actually pretty good at making bread. He often helps Alastair make bread to go with the purple Gaoler's amazing stew, though the relationship is purely work-related. For some reason, Alastair isn't too interested in seeing Xan as anything other than a coworker. Xanthippos could be a fighter, but finds the idea of himself partaking in violence abhorrent, so he instead acts as a Mediator. His job is to Fortis work out deals with the clientele, settle disputes with rival clans or traveling bandits, and make peace with any Beastclans that they encounter.

Xanthippos was born in the same clan as Duelist, deep in the depths of the Viridian Labyrinth. Because he was such a pacifist, he was regarded as the group outcast, and often shunned from any and all activities or events. Duelist was his only friend, something he is eternally grateful for. When Duelist was eventually sent off to another prison, Xan was destroyed, and left the clan out of loneliness. Due to his unwillingness to compete with the local Wildclaw for food, he decided to become vegan. This option was definitely the best choice for him, as the local fauna tasted much better than any flora, and he didn't have to worry about chasing prey or being attacked by vicious predators. Out of curiosity, he decided to venture out of the Viridian Labyrinth in search of new foods to try. He came across the Gaoler Caravan by chance, as was ecstatic to be reunited with his longtime friend Duelist. Xan was welcomed into the Caravan with open arms, and it was there that he met Peace. Peace had joined the Caravan sometime earlier out of boredom, but hadn't really made any friends. Because Xan wouldn't fight to save his life, Fortis assigned a begrudging Peace as his personal bodyguard, as the Mediator needed to be kept safe. It was surprisingly easy for them to become friends, with Peace unexpectedly enjoying protecting Xan, and Xan always thankful for his safety. They started to hang out even when they didn't have to, and fell in love. Peace barely leaves his mate's side now, dedicated to protecting Xan, but Xanthippos doesn't mind at all. He loves Peace, and Peace loves him.

Xanthippos's first name is an unfortunate collision of letters that is just barely coherent enough to serve as a title. Only Peace, Duelist, and Fortis can really pronounce it correctly. Everyone else just calls him "Xan" for short, and Xanthippos is rather relieved by this. It's rather embarrassing to watch others struggle to get his name right for longer than necessary, so a three-letter name saves time and a bruised ego. His surname, "Placynthium", is a type of lichen that his family was named after, seeing as he was born in the Gladekeeper's forests. As it is also obscenely long, most people call it "Placid" for short. Furthermore, as Placid means "not easily upset" or "peaceful", it's also an apt descriptor for Xan himself.

▢ Trivia

The bird skull Xan wears around his neck once belonged to a dying Roc. He found the wounded creature one day, and made its last moments as comfortable as he could. He cried when it finally passed, and keeps its skull as a reminder to always be merciful, and to never cause wanton suffering.
The snake coiled around his horns is a gift from Peace. The amphithere acts as a messenger pigeon of sorts, so that if Xan is ever in trouble while Peace isn't around, the amphithere can go seek out Peace and warn them of Xan's plight. The amphithere's name is Scarlet.
