Biography
"Long ago, when the borders of this great Wood were much smaller, and the trees that now tower along its edges were but mere seedlings, a darkness led me to the very heart of the Forest. I battled with the creature, and when I finally prevailed, I imprisoned the beast in ice and watched over it. The others of my kind that were supposed to be following behind me never came, and so it was that I - a Seeker of great skill - became a Keeper in a hostile and foreign land. Ice did not last in this living landscape, and I would have lost the beast of darkness if not for the arrival of another lone wanderer like myself.
She joined me in my vigil. Time passed, we lost track of the days. Around us, the Labyrinth was always growing, ever changing. Perhaps we remained too long, still and steady as the trees themselves. We changed, adapting to our environment. No longer was the shade creature bound by ice, but by twisting vines, thorns and branches with bark as hard as iron. No longer did we gleam in the night like omens, bright as the moon. We forgot who we had been, forgot the cold and snow of our homeland, the caverns of ice and the towering mountain ranges. And we remained in the emerald wilds, even though our imprisoned beast had long since faded away.
We belong to the vast, ever-expanding forest now, roam it freely and without fear. We will never forget our father who had made us what we were, but we will never return to the frozen place of our birth. Our hearts belong to the Keeper of the great Glades now, and we shall serve her all of our days."
