Biography

WIP, header needed
This dragon was hatched on the 5th Anniversary of the ODCA

I've been collecting old dragons since May 2014. It started during the Greenskeeper Gathering when I bought Summit with Bladed Flatleaves. I didn't notice her age until about a week later, but I was surprised to find that she was 8 months old at the time. She was hatched and active on the site for a long time before I even knew Flight Rising existed. That thought fascinated me and I became obsessed with checking the ages of dragons. I found all sorts of interesting FR history in them through their parents, their offspring, and their previous owners. I founded the Old Dragon Collectors Association to find others who had this interest.

My lair has primarily been dedicated to oldie collecting since then. It has also undergone many phases that reflected different interests. This is a place where I tell the stories of how different dragons came and went from my lair, connecting projects and people across the years I've been on site. It is a work in progress.

I'll start with the dragons I currently own. Below is information about how I acquired them.

Osmunda and Reed are my progenitors who I exalted in my first month of playing in April 2014. I never thought I'd get enough Treasure for a gene scroll back then, and I had no appreciation for project dragons. I didn't even appreciate that Reed, my custom, was the only dragon I would ever truly design myself! But when making currency got easier and I started having projects myself, I quickly came to regret my decision. I searched on the Dragons Wanted forum for over a year for replacements on this thread (big shout out to my friend Xanarcah for helping me search IDs), but Flight Rising eventually gave us progenitor restoration in September 2016! What a gift!

I won Nuphar on 4/3/2018 in an auction. Her name was originally Martel and she was the first unhatched egg that Rhea ever found in the Coli. This is therefore very special because it's exceptionally rare to find a 4 digit Gen 1 who is not a progen! When I saw how perfect she was, I knew I had to have her, even at the cost of a portion of my 3 digit quest fund (which was 100kG strong at the time). My winning bid was 20kG, a Light Sprite, a Fire Sprite, and an Arcane Sprite, totaling to a value of 77kG. I had only gotten my Light Sprite a month and a half prior from my dear friend Vet, but I figured I could quest for that one again later. Nuphar is a Nature queen and I would have emptied my 3 digit fund completely to win her if I had to.

Typha is a dragon I've had since 2016. She's stuck around through multiple lair clean outs and upgrades and she is now the only dragon left from my "original" lair group. I had gotten a good deal on her when I bought her (only a few hundred Gems, but the exact details of purchase are not in the old sales thread where I expected to find them) because of the condition of her offspring list. This is the kind of dragon I like to own and I love finding purpose for old breeders. My plans with her constantly change and I'm excited to see what I can make of her.

I purchased Sphagnum (originally named Bes) off the AH on 8/15/2018. He was a simple acquisition. I watched him for a while and when his price came down into the acceptable range for 5 digit Gen 1s, I couldn't resist. I think I paid around 16kg. Glad I nabbed him!

134561.png?mtime=XulU2gAASoE.png
I purchased Nyssa (originally named Altsoba) off the AH on 7/9/2018 for 4kG. I was working on a project where I was replacing some of my low ID Gen 1s with more suitable breeders. Since breeding dragons is one of the main ways I enjoy this site and I like to keep my oldies active in that regard, it was important to me to have dragons whose offspring lists weren't going to be ruined by such projects. Just like Wolffia #112026 and Lemna #481849, who were bought separately from the same seller, Nyssa was a perfect candidate for this because her offspring list was already very long and not very pretty to begin with. This dragon originally came with some art, which no longer matches her colors and breed. I figured I'd leave the links here just in case: Art by Svarog | Arty by NeonStrom | Art by lackingsanity.

112026.png?mtime=XulTcwAAThg.png
I purchased Wolffia off the AH on 6/17/2018 for 4kG. My other heavily bred 6 digit Gen 1s, Nyssa #134651 and Lemna #481849, coincidentally were purchased off the AH from the same seller. There's a story there and I'll have to write it into their lore. I've always wanted a green and pink colored dragon, so I nearly squealed when the Scatter Scrolls threw this combo. Getting her mates so throw similar colors has been a small nightmare but I was lucky and got it in the end.

481849.png?mtime=XulVmAAAS9Q.png
I purchased Lemna (originally named Nisha) off the AH on 10/25/2018 for 4.5kG. She came from the same lair as Nyssa #134561 and Wolffia #112026, though all 3 were purchased at different times. Maybe there's some lore in that! Lemna is special because she's one of the few dragons among my permas who isn't Nature or Plague. I liked the lore idea I had for a Water dragon so I couldn't resist getting one. I'm glad Lemna was available to buy because old Water dragons tend to be somewhat uncommon (but not as rare as Earth).

225300.png?mtime=XxH_4AAAWA8.png
Foetidus is another dragon who I've failed to keep good records on because he's been up for sale so many times. Each time I put a dragon on the AH, I wipe their bio where I keep this info. In hindsight, maybe that's not so smart haha. I purchased him off the AH in mid-2018 and judging by the market for 6 digit Gen 1s then, he probably cost me between 4-5kG. He certainly has eaten a lot of scatter scrolls, but I couldn't be happier with the results. Not only is he a double, but he ended up making the perfect tight range with my gorgeous problem child Wolffia #112026. It's times like these I remember how lucky I got with all of these pairs being scattered into close ranges with each other. I must be crazy.

30821.png?mtime=XulTuwAASWY.png
I received Iva in a trade with my good friend Tavvi #13286. Way back in 2014, I had sniped an unbred 6 digit Imperial off the AH for cheap. I kept her around in my lair, playing the long game in hopes to sell her later. In 2018, Imps like her were selling at auction for 10-15kG, but for some reason mine wouldn't move. After a while it became kind of funny. Luckily I was in the process of shuffling my lair around and I found myself in need of another low ID Nature Gen 1. Tavvi had received this dragon from a friend who didn't play FR anymore, so they were willing to trade with me. Unbred 6d Imps and bred 5 digit Gen 1s were of comparable value, give or take some. So getting Iva was a straightforward dragon swap. Her original name was Alarah.

18833.png?mtime=XufEOQAATd0.png
I purchased Calamus on 6/18/2018. He was on the AH and the seller was very flexible in haggling his price with me; I ended up paying 16kG if I remember correctly. I'm overjoyed with how his scatters turned out. Copper is one of the best two-tone colors and I'm excited I get to play with it!

128414.png?mtime=XyCQlAAAWTA.png
I've had poor record keeping for Juncus for as long as I've had him. I had him listed on the AH multiple times, before which I would wipe the purchase dates and gene info I used to keep in his bio. I remember for sure that I bought him off the AH for around 4kG in mid-2018 and scattered him a bunch. That's all I got. Oh well. Glad I kept him in the end, I love how his colors ended up. I guess the slow market back then was alright for something!

48083.png?mtime=XxH9kgAAUwI.png
I purchased Elodea on 4/6/2018 from my friend Niharike #12265 for 12kG. They were very kind to help me out in getting my first Nature 5 digit Gen 1! Elodea is taking the place of #54077, who was a gift to me in my early days FR. He stayed in my clan for many years and I'm happy that my friend Tavvi #13286 purchased him from me. It's fun to see what he's become!

28055.png?mtime=XrX8gwAAVVg.png
When Azolla popped up on the AH on 7/4/2018 and I saw the seller's username, I got very excited. TheSunTheGodsSaw #35038 (a buddy I chatted with a lot a few years back when I was involved in Plague dom) had been gone for a long time and they returned briefly while they could. I'm glad I was checking for Plague 5 digit Gen 1s every day or I may have missed her. Sun was very kind and flexible about Azolla price and I'm so happy I was able to give her a new home; I paid 12kG for her. I purchased Benzoin #43466 from them at the same time, which inspired much of their lore together. Azolla was not this dragon's original name, though I can't remember what it was now.

43466.png?mtime=XxuswgAASZw.png
I bought Benzoin (original name Gaia) from TheSunTheGodsSaw #35038 on 7/4/2018 for 12kG. I was very fortunate to catch my old buddy coming online and listing some dragons on the AH after being offsite for a while. It was so nice to catch up with them and I hope they're back online regularly at some point! I purchased Azolla #28055 from them at the same time, which inspired much of their lore together.

48909.png?mtime=XNLg0gAATDw.png
Another dragon from Ganymede #13020 (the same user who sold me my Plague Gen 2 Imperial sisters). I got Acorus in a trade with them. 2018 was a very formative year for my lair, particularly late in the year. It seems like all at once, I was able upgrade everything in a giant leap. My lair went from a ragtag group of oldies to a tight and cohesive page of low ID Gen 1s. I had only recently acquired a rare 4 digit Earth dragon (#6074), but this was before I realized that I really wanted to narrow my collection down to Gen 1s. Gany was interested in trading with me, so we made a deal: Their Gen 1 Earth 5 digit (named Dirt at the time) plus 35kG for my Earth 4 digit. I was happy to make this trade since I hadn't been able to give up the idea of a "grave soil" pair in my Nature/Plague lair for a long time.

662932.png
Once again, BirdsDontTalk comes in clutch for my dragon collection. Despite starting out as an XXY double, they sold me Peltandra for the normal 6d G1 price because I was going to scatter her. It was very cool of them, and I love her improved XYZ colors. Her original name was Aphrodite.

This group of dragons represents the true nature of my fickleness. Against my better judgement, I bought many cheap 7 digit Gen 1s in early 2020 and then sunk a lot of Gems into them through scatters and genes. I was initially not as attached to them on account of their "youth" and while I enjoyed the project, I was less excited about them once they were finished. I was feeling like I was in a slump on FR at the time, so when I found an opportunity to rid myself of them through an Aywas cross-site trade, I did so. One of these dragons had already left my lair and returned to me once, so it was doubly pathetic. Months passed and I kept running into my old 7d G1s on the AH. Most of them I did not miss, but these four I did. I resisted the temptation to buy them back until 6/2/2020. My good friend Tavvi helped me out, preserving what little pride I have left. They're here to stay now.

148550.png?mtime=ZX-lcqYxQrw.png
I bought the female (originally named Phoenix) off the AH for 5kg on 11/13/2020. I was nearing the theoretical end of my oldie G1 collection and I was getting impatient. I was so excited to find her for a reasonable price that I decided to snoop the seller's lair to see if they had anything more I'd might want. Turns out they had her one and only mate tucked away in their Hibernal Den, and he was one of my flights (Plague) to boot! I sent a message right away thanking them for selling Phoenix and asking if her mate, named Fallout at the time, would possibly be for sale too. They got back to me right away and graciously sold him to me for the same price I bought the girl for. I love keeping old exclusive breeding pairs together so this was a big get for my lair.

I used to keep track of my old dragon collection on this thread I made in 2015, but I lost track of it and didn't really feel like updating it. I don't own the majority of those dragons anymore and the info I thought was important back then isn't really important to me now. But I still like to peek at these dragons from time to time. Some of them found new homes with friends, others have traveled quite far.

1901.png

This dragon was the first 4 digit I ever owned and I have really fond memories of him. My good friend Vet was helping me on my 4 digit dragon quest in 2014 and they connected with a very kind user named Snikyttik. As you can see from my pathetic quest thread, I really couldn't afford a 4 digit back then. But Snikyttik was incredibly cool and accepted payment 100% in art. I did a set of watercolor paintings for them of a few of their characters and also of their pet cats. I kept this dragon for years in my lair and even though I would sell him to my friend Malachite much later, seeing him still makes me really happy. I kept him even through the giant liquidation for my 3 digit quest, but I ended up with 60kg for him in 2018, which ultimately was put towards my 4 digit Gen 1 purchase.

4864.png

I purchased this dragon in an informal sale in 2017; my high offer of 30kg was accepted by Benzene. This was about standard for the time, but I was very fortunate because prices on 4 digits would double in the very near future. When I decided that I wanted my old dragon collection to be Gen 1 only, I was able to sell her for double what I bought her for. My good friend Tavvi AB'd her for 60kg. She has since be sold to our mutual friend Malachite. Her original colors were Ice/Leaf/Seafoam, which I loved, but she has since by scattered by Tavvi into a gorgeous XYX.

6074.png

After I purchased my 3 digit dragon in April 2018, I was on the lookout for an equally impressive mate for her. I came across this dragon and offered 60kg for him. At the time this was what I had been buying/selling 4 digit dragons for and I expected this price to be little higher because he is Earth flight, the rarest flight for low ID dragons. But there wasn't and my offer was accepted. I scattered him from his original colors Caribbean/Emerald/Teal to a stunningly matchy Brick/Turquoise/Thicket. I didn't own this dragon for a very long time because shortly after the purchase I decided to shift my old dragon collection to Gen 1s only. When I rehomed him, it was at a slight loss, but that's how I acquired my 5 digit Earth Gen 1. My friend Ganymede swapped with me and added 30kg to their end. The original owner of this dragon was not pleased that I rehomed him and made that clear on my clan profile.

10468.png

When I owned this dragon, his name was Danyl and I purchased him from Meniph on Halloween in 2014. He was a hideous mess color-wise (Purple/Blue/Brown) but still an "old" dragon at just over a year old, so I frankensteined together an offer that was a lot for my newbie self: 100kT, 3 unhatched eggs, and 3 Ambush stones. He was the first dragon I ever scattered! After two scrolls, I ended up with Sunshine/Gold/White and he was a staple in my lair for the next four years. He was one of the many I sold off when I dedicated myself for my 3 digit dragon quest and he went for 9kg via a private offer. This was standard for 5 digit dragons in 2018.

26115.png

I can't remember the exact date Raith joined my clan but I got lucky when I spotted him in someone's lair cleanout. I pointed out that he was very old and that I'd like to purchase him, and the old owner just gave him to me free of charge. Another good person's username lost and forgotten, unfortunately. His original colors were Crimson/Grey/Navy, which I scattered into Leaf/Sky/Forest. He was a perma baby Ridgeback for a while and eventually, on March 13,2018, my good friend Tavvi purchased him for around 7-8kg to help with my 3 digit dragon quest. Later, on August 15, 2018, our mutual friend Rogue purchased him from them.

157139.png?mtime=XZIXegAAWuE.png
I owned this dragon for only a few months in 2018, but her time in my lair was memorable. FR had just had its 5th anniversary and the eye type feature was released. I was generally unlucky getting those horrible eye scatter items to drop, but I used the majority of the ones I got right away. This dragon was lucky. I used a single eye scatter on her and got Primal. I was liquidating for my 3 digit quest at the time and while this is normally the type of dragon that stays among my permas, I saw an opportunity to get more than average for a bred 6d G1. My good friend Tavvi offered me 10kg for her and I took it. Our mutual friend Vet later bought it from them. Sometimes I regret selling this dragon. I don't have any Primal eye type oldies anymore and the price of the eye scatter item is far too high for how little use it actually is.
