| Pickerel listened to the songs of birds, he listened to whispers not meant to be heard. A quiet sort, not one to tell, not one to think a rumor should quell. Pickerel listened to the songs of birds, listened closely as frustrations stirred. And then he had an idea. A thought, a plan, a scheme. A meeting by the stream with someone more vexatious than he. That icy old Tundra was stuck in his ways, full of nostalgia for better days. What better dissenter could there be? So he told him as much and planted the seed. The old Tundra was gone with the next seven dawns, left the clan with no one to count on. While Pickerel's notion of a leader's devotion earned him his clanmate's respect. This was not what he wanted! By this he was daunted! For quiet sorts should not be vaunted. He stepped down before the decision was made, he hoped they'd forget, he wished and prayed. He made a new nest to live alone, just him and a mate in a den of stone. For Pickerel only listens to birds, not dragons looking for voices to be heard. |
