Biography

Before Altair lived there was just a small wisp of defeated shade floating around in space. Just a bit of magical essence. As it floated around for eons, it slowly absorbed a bit of the magical essence of space. After eons of being lost in space the wisp of shade found its way to Sornieth. It found its way inside a dying egg in a nature nest. With the new magical essence inside the egg, the egg became healthy again and soon hatched a pearlcatcher with scales like the night sky, named Altair.

Altair was different from his siblings, he was mischievous and loved to mess around with the dragons in the nature clan. Something about him made it seem as if he was born of the night sky and not dragons. Altair left his clan at a young age and wandered the lands.

As he grew the shade essence that once gave him life, began to take over. It was small at first, just small amounts of time where he lost all control. Whenever the shade took over, he was still conscious able to see what was happening. At first he still had some influence but it grew worse. And as it grew worse, it began to show in Altair. He began to distance himself from dragons, and darkness as black as the shade began to creep into his eyes. Tendrils of blackness running through the perfect night sky patterns on his scales.

Within months Altair had lost all control. He just watched helpless as the shade took over and ran rampant, attacking dragons for no reason. He watched as the shade turned him into a murderer, a feared one with soulless black eyes, and scales darker than the Shadowbinder herself.

Soon a group of dragons came to capture Altair, or at least the shade that controlled him. There were 11 of them, one of each flight alignment. The dragons easily captured the shade controlled Altair. They brought him to a prison, which the Shade desperately tried to escape.

He was there for about three months before the dragons that first captured him came back. The shade had seemed to give up on escape after the first month so they found him sitting in the darkest corner of his prison. “I have an idea.” A pearlcatcher at the front of the group said as they stood in front of his cell. As she said that she pulled out an anklet. The other dragon’s eyes widened, and Altair just watched confused.

The pearlcatcher at the front had metallicy red scales with gold colored wings and runes, she wrapped a small tendril of light magic around her talons. It was the same golden yellow color as her eyes, she then tapped her talon to the anklet, putting the magic into the anklet, it turned the same yellow as light magic. As she passed it around each dragon put some magic into it. The shade inside Altair sensed something was off, and started acting up.

The light dragon unlocked the door to his cell, and as soon as she did, Altair raced for the door as it was unlocked. He leaped at the pearlcatcher only to be knocked out of midair by another one of the dragons. The dragons pinned him, securing the now pastel colored anklet onto him. Altair soon passed out from the magic in the anklet.

A week later Altair awoke, and he felt free. He opened his eyes and instead of the pure blackness they were for months, they were back to their natural green color. His scales although not their original purples and blues that were the sky, still had constellations all over them, yet were a deep red, a reminder of all the death he caused when the shade controlled him. Yet they were still stained a blue purplish color.

The pearlcatcher looked up to see the red and yellow light dragon from earlier. “You’re awake, wonderful.” She said sounding bored. “Anyways I’m Lika, you’re coming back to my clan with me.” She stated. Altair nodded and he followed Lika to the surface, and all the way to the Lightweaver’s domain.

When they arrived Lika brought Altair to what looked like a tiny outpost in the area. She then led him underground to a bustling clan lair. “Lika, and a new dragon, for my clan?!” An imperial exclaimed. “Welcome to the Clan of Everlasting Light!” She beamed. Altair later learned the imperial to be one Tranquility, leader of the clan at the time, the kindest and most trusting dragon you'd ever meet, trusting and kind to fault that caused certain dragons to think she was a bad leader.

Among the dragons who disliked Tranquility and Zephyr's rule was Lika, a dragon that Altair was extremely loyal to, and for good reasons she helped save his life, took him to her clan when he had nowhere to go. He also believed in Lika's ideas, and the rebellion that Lika was leading against Tranquility and Zephyr. He became Lika's right hand, and led the rebellion side by side with her. At first they kept the rebellion quiet, but after a while it became more out of control.

Eventually the rebellion came down to one battle that would decide the fate of the clan. In that battle Lika and the rebels won, but in that battle Lika accidentally killed Tranquility. It brought unrest in the clan, and for a couple weeks the clan was in a sort of limbo while they waited for the clan's council to decide if they would allow Lika, a murderer to run their clan. Eventually they decided Lika could run the clan, and so Lika took control of the clan, and renamed the clan to become known as The Lumina. Altair worked alongside her as her co-leader the entire time, as he had been since he joined the clan.

Lika's reign started off well, and Altair helped guide her through, but after a while Lika became more of the bloodthirsty merciless dragon that she truly was. Altair tried to stop her, and he tried to keep her the good leader that he knew she could, he tried to convince her not to go down a dark path. But despite Altair's greatest efforts he could stop Lika, and Lika made the clan go to war with a nearby beastclan that they were at an uneasy peace with.

The war started off well but after that it all went downhill. Altair would spend all his free time trying to convince Lika to call off the war and sign a peace treaty with the beastclan, but Lika refused to listen and continued to drive their dragons to war. The dragons of the clan came to Altair for help, Lika wouldn't let any of the dragons leave, and plenty had already died in the war, the clan had no chances of survival if they continued fighting. Altair agreed to sneak the dragons away slowly in the cover of night.

Lika never figured out what Altair was up to but as her clan slowly dwindled away dragons dying and disappearing at every turn she figured she was fighting a losing battle, and she abandoned the clan, most dragons that were left, left the clan. After Lika's rule, and her leaving the clan was in ruins, and shambles, there was almost nothing left, except Altair and four other dragons. Altair naturally took control of the clan being Lika's right hand and everything.

Altair fought to keep the small clan afloat for a while, try to make it the large prospering clan it once was, and he knew it could be. But he just couldn't do it, the clan was failing. So Altair disbanded the clan, and then he left the Sunbeam Ruins off in search of a new home.
