bella. the name rung beauty. while not too far from the truth; the crimson imperial walked with regal energy - grace upon every step.
but behind the glittering scales lay a secret no one spoke.
a day like any other, with just the haze of morning mist, and fresh dew dripped in pools beyond exotic plants. it was the dragon sula - the clan of counting's resident ambassador of lighting - who founded the grisly scene that tore her heart to two.
rolled a meter from a destroyed nest, the fluff and bones cracked and littered upon reddish sand, was an equally damaged egg. red oozed from were a hatchling pipped, but it was too dark in colour to be the usual cut veins of the egg's insides. sula took to landing, pitiful sounds at the back of her throat as she nosed the lifeless crimson mass. a look back to the nest showed the same fate to three other of the clutch, but this one had at least been alive prior to the egg smashing.
what she did was not deemed right - but the chieftess of her clan wouldn't dare question her.
static leapt from her dark flank, roaming between each scale until fired upon the lifeless hatchling. electricity sparked minutes after, illuminating the red colouring and leaving whitish lines and blackened burns - but after relaxed and sula let out a breath when the flank of the hatchling expanded.
eyes once in the red of plaguebringer now the chilling blue of stormcatcher.
it was the clan chieftess to give the name beauty - bella - to the imperial once shown by sula. the ancient fae didn't ask why the hatchling jolted every so often, nor why there was electric blue coursing the length of crimson markings down the girl's form.
she could already tell the air around the imperial was off - but frankly, she didn't care as to why.
bella would learn she carried literal lighting with her in each step, in every stretch of her body, with the crimson filigree down the length of her form lit with leaping static. but what she would not learn was of her plague origin (that was unless she started to question the reds of her scales.)
