One of few of XIII’s students to survive the battle known as the Fall, Dumal recently took his teacher’s place as Spymaster of the West Fallows in order to give his teacher the freedom needed to care for their weakened king. Dumal knows that he has not truly earned the position and has done what he can to earn the respect afforded his old commander; that being said, he finds comfort in XIII’s trust in him and works hard to keep it.
Though growing up with the knowledge that he was not one of XIII’s favorites, it wasn’t until after the Fall that he began to realize the depths of his own respect for his master and the drive he felt to receive it in turn. While desiring to prove himself, he is not so far gone to be desperate- XIII taught him well, after all- and instead works with a level headedness that would surprise many given his motivation. He strives to return the army to what it once was, to fill it with so many students that they would again require a number of generals of varying talents and skills and need to split the force into schools once more. Currently he oversees the teachings of only a few students, but he takes great pride in their accomplishments rather than becoming frustrated at the slow comings of his goals. He learned from the best, after all. A quiet soul, he perhaps tries too hard to emulate his old teacher’s personality and ways. Beneath the strict and wise shell is a young man with little social skills, a lack of companionship, and miles of uncertainty outside of his duties. He has little life or understanding of his own self outside of his office due to the strict nature of his upbringing, and with the slowly crumbling martial state of the kingdom he has started to feel at a loss anywhere but in his work. |
