Born and raised in the West Fallows territory, Marrow’s family goes back to a time before even the Harbinger’s ruled the land. They remained due to a mix of stubborness, pride, and poverty, fixated on farming the land and unable to leave even when they wanted to. They survived many changes in leadership, wars, and worse over the generations, pushing through each time no matter the bleakness of their future.
But the war between the king and an old enemy changed a great many things, and the people were left without outside trade and the protections of the military. Marrow was forced between the choice of watching her family starve or making something more of the situation. She began to teach herself survival skills through books and limited apprenticeships, learning to hunt and gather what the land had to offer, to gather resources that could be traded if not used, and to provide and craft everything she could need on a daily basis. In doing so she kept her family- and a good portion of the village- afloat through the worst of the plight. But her greatest and most famous of discoveries proved the be the most dangerous. During one of her outings, Marrow discovered a murder of Fuiran within the cave network running underneath the lands. Such creatures were known to inhabit similar territories, but never had they before had they been seen so far west. In them she saw an opportunity, an opportunity that would either kill her or provide her people the edge they needed to once again rise to power. Through sheer luck, determination, and instinct, Marrow began the process of taming the wild herd. For over two years she watched them, studying their interactions and activities, learning the rules of their hierarchy, mating rituals, and daily needs, even noting the habits and personalities of individual packmates. It was only then that she dared to set forth her plan. The lead male took two of her fingertips and left a number of scars on her body, but she managed to tame him. The rest of the herd followed in time, each member of the pack conquered more swiftly than the last as both her skills grew and their wild numbers dwindled. In the end she had built her kingdom an army of beasts so grand and vicious that their reputation would soar once again. |
