daughter of the shadowbinder | strong-hearted, naïve, benevolent

Ania never knew her father. The Shadowbinder did not revel in many of her followers, as all did know, and much speculation passed about the identity of her hatchling's sire. Some claimed he was a clan prince from the Labyrinth who got lost within the Foxfire's tangles; others that he was a thief come to plunder from the Shadowbinder's splendors and was imprisoned until his mind left him. Regardless, Ania was raised cloistered within the woods and accompanied most often by its dangerous spirits: the Shadowshaker of the depths, the Gladebinder in his skeletal crown, and the Windbinder come from fog. Since she was a hatchling, they adorned her in gifts for the promise of a favor. It became a nostalgic game, one whose consequences she did not realize until the Shadowshaker called upon her for war. Her sister by the earth, the Flameshaker, had long provoked her ire and thus she wished for Ania to guide her cave-beasts to her sibling's chest.

Never one to break her word, young Ania slipped from the woods beneath her mother's notice. The Flameshaker was fierce: her volcanic mountains quaked with her might, and the cave-beasts scattered and Ania was taken prisoner. She protested that the spirits who loved her would come to her aid — but time progressed, and they did not. All the while, she and the Flameshaker Minea grew ever closer, warmed by mutual stories of their isolated youth. When Minea released her from imprisonment saying she could not bear to keep her, Ania pleaded to stay, not as a hostage but an ally and companion. Together they seek to preserve the volcanic range: Ania most often found at Minea's side, or amongst the lava-creatures and iron-watchers patrolling its slopes.
