All manner of creature resides within the southern swamplands, birds among them. Pale, sunken-eyes cranes wade in the muck. Ducks and moorhens glide past on the water’s surface. Fat, little sparrows and wrens flit about in the mangrove trees, tiny voices carrying across the quiet region’s expanse. Occasionally, an owl, tucked away in its nest as it waits for nightfall, and the hunt, to begin.

The Alcoves’ aviary harbors a fine selection of these birds, lured from the surrounding murky woodland- buntings and wood thrushes, harriers and kingfishers. A large portion of the roost’s inhabitants, however, are not so local. Large, screeching parrots which once resided farther into the Viridian Labyrinth’s jungle. Sleek-feathered ravens and crows, taken from past the border of the Tangled Wood. A terribly out of place seagull.

For all their differences, every of the aviary’s birds fall under the care of Sakura. As the Alcoves’ only birdkeeper, nearly all of her time is spent tending to them- not that she objects. Sakura despises most other dragons, especially her own kind. She much prefers the company of her birds, who don’t mind her many faults. Her shrill cadence, her brusque disposition, and her complete and utter lack of magical talent. The birds don’t care- and so, neither does she.
